Naana Jane Wins NDC Running Mate Bid

Profesorr Jane Naana opoku Agyemang and John Dramani Mahama

The Former Education Minister under the erstwhile Mahama administration from 2013 to 2017, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman appears to lead the running mate bid of the National Democratic Congress ahead of the 2024 general elections as she appears to receives warm support from some party bigwigs.

Even though several names such as the Former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Asunafo South MP Eric Opoku, Former Mayor for Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, the former Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Kwame Awuah Darko, Former Trade Minister, Dr Spio Gabrah and former NPA boss Alex Mold have popped up as likely candidates for the position, the former first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, however, appears to be in a comfortable lead and the favourite among all.

The Special Aide and cousin to Former President John Dramani Mahama, Lawyer Joyce Bawah Mogtari has unapologetically endorsed the candidature of the former Minister of Education, Professor Naana Opoku Agyeman as the running mate to the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Madam Mogtari strongly asserted that the former Minister of Education possess the required qualities and all that it takes to partner with Former President John Dramani Mahama to win the 2024 general elections for the National Democratic Congress.

“She might not be that young one in the trenches debating politics but at her level who should she be debating? Touted as one of Africa’s successful stories in academics. What does she have to prove to anybody?”

Gender And NDC Chances Of Victory In 2024 General Elections

Moreover, the former Deputy Minister of Transport emphasized that the gender of the Former Minister of Education, Professor Naana Opoku Agyeman as a woman would play a significant role in the victory of the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 general election when selected as the party’s running mate.

She added that the National Democratic Congress stand the chance to make history in the country’s political and governance history if it makes the former vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast its running mate to occupy the second highest position in the country.

“There are all types of balances. Some go for South-South; some go for South-North; some go for Christian-Muslim; He also has gone for Male-Female. It is very rare so let’s try it. As for me, anything female is always my choice. If we have 52% of our position being women, why should we be stressing about the choice of a running mate being female? The closest we have to a female finally serving in a real capacity as vice president was the day he selected Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang. Let’s make no mistake. It’s a profound thing”.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq.

Again, it does appear it is not only the Special Aide to Former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari who has a soft spot for the former Education Minister for the National Democratic Congress running mate position as the North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who is also tipped to partner the Former President has endorsed his former boss, Professor Naana Opoku Agyeman.

In a recent media interview, Mr Ablakwa, the former Deputy Minister of Education reaffirmed his prediction at the beginning of the year that Former President John Dramani Mahama would retain Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as his running mate for the 2024 general elections.

Like the Akan proverb put it ‘If a frog comes out of the water and tells you the crocodile is dead, do not doubt it’, it is therefore obvious that despite some opposition from within the National Democratic Congress against the nomination of the former Minister of Education as the party’s running mate for the 2024 general elections, Mr Mahama is likely to maintain her as the professor appears to have court support from individuals very close to Mr Mahama.

It will also mean that Former President John Dramani Mahama would be the only flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress who does not change the choice of his running mate in subsequent elections under the Fourth Republic.
