Some Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament have strongly called on the Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem to resign from his post following his decision to contest for the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries in the Akyem Swedru Constituency.

According to the Minority Members of Parliament, it is very inappropriate and untenable for Mr Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem to remain at post despite picking a nomination form to contest the Akyem Swedru parliamentary seat ahead of the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries on January 27 2023.

The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central in the Northern Region, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed in a press briefing in Parliament emphasized that the Controller and Accountant General must step down and be investigated as well.

According to him, the Office of the Special Prosecutor needs to look into Mr Kwaning-Bosompem because of certain serious accusations that have been levelled against him.

“If the man is failing to do so, I believe the President would have to ask him to resign. It simply doesn’t make sense. So I will support the call that he should resign if he wants to contest an election and I would urge the Office of the Special Prosecutor to commence an investigation into this matter.

“My expectation was that by now, the Office of the Special Prosecutor would have commenced some investigation into this matter. If indeed he had some delegates in his constituency on a payroll, how was he paying them? I think that it ought to be looked at, particularly the critical role he plays as far as the accounting and finances of this country are concerned. The salary of every public officer is managed and controlled by him and the extent to which he ought to distance himself from politics”.

Mr Ibrahim Murtala further asserted that the Controller and Accountant General should have immediately resigned when he announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries.

According to him, even though the Controller and Accountant General, Mr Kwaning-Bosompem has every right like any citizen of Ghana to actively participate in politics, he cannot descend into the arena of partisan politics and still be in such a sensitive position like the Controller and Accountant General.

South Dayi MP Calls For Review Of Ghana’s Governance Framework

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi in the Volta Region, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor posited that a quick review of the country ‘s governance framework and a reinvention of the principles that guide the constitution and constitutional governance process are imperative.

According to the South Dayi Lawmaker, it is very inappropriate for public servants to continue to remain in office while they are involved in active partisan politics, emphasizing that such conduct undermines the principles and values guiding the conduct of public and civil servants in the country.

“You are the Accountant General of the Republic of Ghana, if you decide to engage in partisan politics, then you need to exit from office because the constitution is not saying don’t engage in politics, but it says that if you are a public servant, don’t engage in partisan politics”

Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor Esq.

Additionally, Lawyer Dafeamekpor demanded the resignation of all District Chief Executives (DCE), who are considered public servants and have turned into a parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party in some Constituencies in the country.
