NPP General Secretary Urges Resignation And Reshuffle For 2024 Victory

In a candid address at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) annual Thanksgiving Service, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has issued a stern call to President Akufo-Addo, urging an immediate reshuffle of the government. His plea was coupled with a direct message to fatigued Ministers, CEOs, and MMDCEs, urging them to resign rather than sabotage the party’s trajectory.

Expressing deep concern about the impact of certain appointees’ actions on the party’s popularity, Kodua emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and focus within the party to secure victory in the upcoming elections. He asserted that loyalty to the party’s objectives should be paramount.

The General Secretary’s message was clear and directed at those who may be feeling overwhelmed in their roles.

“If you are a Minister, a CEO, or an MMDCE and you have not been reshuffled and you think you are tired, resign, don’t sabotage the party.”

Kodua emphasized, underscoring the detrimental effects of internal conflicts on the NPP’s political standing.

Furthermore, Kodua called on President Akufo-Addo to instigate a reshuffle, injecting fresh faces into the government to revitalize its image and effectiveness.

“It is time for some changes in the government so we get some new faces to continue. We believe that if we get new appointments, we will be able to retain power in the next election.”

The plea for a reshuffle was not merely a call for change but a strategic move aimed at rejuvenating the party’s appeal and competence. Kodua’s address resonated with the party faithful present at the Thanksgiving Service, creating a buzz of anticipation regarding potential shifts in key government positions.

Akufo-Addo’s Leadership Style Stands In Contrast

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership style has often been characterized by a steadfast commitment to continuity and stability. However, recent calls from within his party, notably by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, for an urgent reshuffle of government appointees have exposed a rare chink in the President’s armor.

Akufo-Addo’s reluctance to embrace the notion of widespread reshuffling appears rooted in his belief in the value of experience and consistency. Despite growing concerns about the impact of certain appointees on the party’s popularity, the President has maintained a resolute attitude, signaling that stability within his government takes precedence over immediate changes.

Critics argue that this approach could be a double-edged sword, potentially risking stagnation and complacency within the administration. While Akufo-Addo’s steadfastness may be driven by a desire to maintain a sense of order and avoid disruption, the call for a reshuffle reflects a broader sentiment within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that fresh faces and perspectives are needed to invigorate the party’s image.

The President’s supporters commend his commitment to loyalty and continuity, emphasizing that stability fosters an environment conducive to achieving long-term goals. However, as the political landscape evolves, Akufo-Addo may face the challenge of balancing the need for stability with the imperative to adapt to shifting public sentiments.

The upcoming months are likely to be crucial in determining whether President Akufo-Addo will maintain his unwavering stance or succumb to the mounting pressure for change within the NPP ranks. As the party navigates internal dynamics and prepares for the next election, the President’s attitude toward reshuffling appointees will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of the NPP’s political future.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo announced a significant appointment within the party ranks. Hajia Safia Mohammed, the 1st Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the NPP, has been appointed as the new National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme. She steps into the role previously held by Madam Getrude Quashiga, who passed away on November 12, 2023.

The School Feeding Programme has been a pivotal initiative under the Akufo-Addo administration, aimed at enhancing school enrolment, attendance, and retention. Hajia Safia’s appointment is seen as not only a tribute to the late Madam Quashiga but also as a strategic move to bring in new leadership and energy to sustain and improve the program’s impact.
