The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has vowed to protect the activities of motorcycle operators in the country when elected into power in 2024.
The former President during a gathering at the Agormanya Saint Martin’s Parish Hall as part of his Building Ghana tour in the Eastern Region asserted that the motorcycle transportation industry, commonly known as Okada, has firmly established itself and is impervious to government interference.
Addressing the crowd, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the 2024 general elections criticized President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party administration’s failure to address economic challenges and generate employment opportunities for the youth.
Mr Mahama lamented over the deteriorating state of the country’s economy and further argued that the mismanagement of the New Patriotic Party administration led by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has gravely worsened the standard of living of Ghanaians, particularly those working within the informal sector of the economy.
Mr Mahama reiterated his unwavering commitment to improving the working conditions of the Okada riders in the country and thus promised that if elected into power in 2024, his administration would implement a comprehensive system encompassing registration, licensing, and regulation for Okada riders.
According to Mr Mahama, such an initiative if implemented would provide clear guidelines for Okada riders, ensuring the smooth operation of their businesses without unnecessary obstacles.
Mahama Pledges To Revitalize Ghana’s Agriculture
Furthermore, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama outlined his plans for the agricultural sector, expressing concern for local farmers in the Krobo enclaves.
The former President in his message unveiled his vision for a farmer’s cooperative designed to address challenges faced by farmers when purchasing essential agricultural supplies like fertilizers and seeds.
The former president expressed optimism that these measures if properly enrolled by his administration would play a pivotal role in revitalizing the agricultural sector, which has faced challenges in recent years, particularly under the New Patriotic Party administration.
“To support farmers, each district will be equipped with a farmer service centre. These centres will offer a range of essential equipment such as planters, ploughs, tractors, harrows, and more, ensuring that farmers receive the necessary support”.

Commenting on the establishment of farmers’ service centres, Mr Mahama indicated that the initiative is one of the key components of his plan to address the economic woes currently plaguing the country.
The proposed farmer service centres according to the National Democratic Congress flagbearer are designed to serve as hubs for farmers, providing them with access to crucial resources, knowledge, and equipment necessary for efficient farming.
Former President John Dramani Mahama further emphasized that his plans is to empower local farmers and boost agricultural productivity, ultimately leading to economic growth and prosperity for the country.
According to former president John Dramni Mahama, he remains steadfast in his vision for a more inclusive and economically robust Ghana and he is therefore committed to enrolling practical and actionable solutions to the challenges facing both urban transport and rural agriculture in the country when elected into power in 2024.
He thus called on the residents of the Eastern Region and all Ghanaians to rally behind him and vote for him and the National Democratic Congress Members of Parliament in the December 7 2024 general elections to form government in 2025 to champion its vision and plans for the country.
