Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Mr. Kwaku Gyasi member of the New Patriotic Party’s Communications Team has asserted that Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia did brilliantly in his address captioned ‘Bold Solutions to the Future’ to Ghanaians yesterday at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

Mr. Kwaku Gyasi, in a media interview on Thursday, February 8 2024 claimed that the issues raised by the Vice President in his address to the people are convincing enough to win the Vice President the 2024 presidential elections.

Subsequently, the member of the NPP National Communications Team emphasized that, the Vice President, unlike the other presidential candidates, had an unnerving challenge to convince the people as a candidate because he is now creating a niche for himself in the political sphere.

More so, Mr. Kwaku Gyasi asserted that the Vice President has brilliantly postulated his plans for Ghanaians in the near future and has convinced the public that he has the capability to effect change economically. “…these are the things Ghanaians want to hear”, he added.

Accordingly, the member of the National Communications Team of the NPP stated the Vice President did well in the approach he used in his presentation. Mr. Gyasi detailed that the Vice President’s delivering was straightforward as it underlined the achievements of the ruling government in his tenure as a deputy to the President.

Also, Mr. Gyasi commended the Vice President for conducting a personality comparison of himself and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama in his address. He posited that Ghanaians, as a people, will be able to look through these juxtapositions and make a decision for themselves.

Furthermore, Mr. Gyasi specified that, remarks from some political fanatics that the Vice President is attempting to dissociate himself from the Akufo-Addo administration are unfortunate.  He reiterated that contrary to the narrative being pushed around, many Ghanaians are superbly won over by the facts delivered in the Vice President’s address.

Thus, Mr. Gyasi declared that the address specifically enlightened Ghanaians on the Vice President’s impressive performance in his tenure of office. He mentioned that policies, such as the Free SHS which increased enrollment in the secondary sector of education and also Ghana’s improved road network are a testament to the Vice President’s competency.

Scrapping Off Mandatory National Service Is In the Right Direction

Additionally, the member of the NPP National Communications Team argued that the Vice President’s proposal in his speech to scrap off mandatory National Service is in the right direction. He declared that the National Service Scheme is currently not achieving its mandate as it has become an opportunity for professionals at workplaces to neglect their responsibilities.

Consequently, Mr. Gyasi opined that a mandatory National Service only permits institutions to take advantage of the service personnel. He purported that many institutions are guilty of training service personnel to do the jobs of experts with the intention of cutting cost on employment. He claimed that scrapping off mandatory National Service, will ensure that graduates are essentially employed into the workforce.

Also, Mr. Gyasi claimed that the Vice President should not have to endure any repercussion from the public for his position on the E-levy tax. He claimed that the Vice President has always been against the execution of the E-levy and his opposition to it now should not be viewed as an act of betrayal to the President, H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo or his party.

Meanwhile Prof. Ransford Gyampo, a lecturer at the University of Ghana and an ardent critic of the government, has criticized Dr. Bawumia for his indictment of the ruling government – which the Vice President is part of – in his address.

Prof. Gyampo indicated that the Vice President’s action has vindicated most critics of the government. He also stated that the Vice President should have focused on more pressing issues such as corruption and the need for good governance rather than the over amplified policy of Digitalization.
