The Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Abigail Elorm Akwambea Mensah has slammed the Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament, Honorable Mavis Hawa Koomson over her comment urging Ghanaians, particularly the youth who are complaining about the cost of accommodation in the country to move to Canada.

Madam Abigail Elorm Akwambea Mensah, in a scathing critique against the Minister for Fisheries, Hawa Koomson, described her comment as “insensitive” and not befitting her position as a Member of Parliament and Minister of state.

The Deputy Women’s Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, further stated that the Awutu Senya East legislator should have rather demonstrated empathy and shown concern to the plight of the many young Ghanaians who are frustrated and suffering due to the mismanagement of the country’s economy by the New Patriotic Party administration which she is part of.

“Ironically, a government that cannot print Passport books for Ghanaian applicants because of incompetence, corruption and needless bureaucracy, is today calling the bluff of young Ghanaians and is asking them to flee the country if they deem rent cost to be expensive. Which document do they expect ordinary Ghanaians to travel with?”

Furthermore, Madam Akwambea Mensah, the Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress accused the New Patriotic Party administration of failing to fulfill its campaign promise to pay the rent of the Ghanaian youth during the 2020 elections.

The Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress also recounted that the comment made by the Awutua Senya East legislator reflects the general mentality and character trait of the ruling New Patriotic Party administration as a government that lacks empathy for its citizens.

According to her, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency, the Honorable Mavis Hawa Koomson’s latest utterance is not too surprising as it only adds up to a plethora of unfortunate comments she has made particularly over the last 7 years.

NDC’s Message Of Hope

Moreover, the Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, Abigail Elorm Akwambea Mensah assured the Ghanaian youth of her party’s commitment to work tirelessly to change the economic conditions of the country when it assumes power in 2025.

She thus expressed deep concerns about the living standard of Ghanaians, particularly the youth who are facing extreme difficulties in life and urged them to remain hopeful as the next National Democratic Congress administration under former President John Dramani Mahama will work to improve the living conditions of every Ghanaian.

She stressed that the National Democratic Congress would implement its proposed policy measures when elected into power to help reduce the burden of huge accommodation costs imposed on Ghanaians, particularly the youth.

In addition, Madam Akwambea Mensah made mention of some of the proposed policies that the National Democratic Congress intends to implement when it assumes power in 2025.

Among many things, she underscored how the 24- Hour Economy policy by its flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama when implemented would create more decent jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the country.

Madam Akwambea Mensah also highlighted the party’s plan to implement its Free Primary Healthcare policy to make healthcare delivery accessible and affordable at the basic levels of society as well as the Big Push Agenda, which seeks to improve the country’s industrialization drive through huge investment in the country’s infrastructure.

She further added that the National Democratic Congress would ensure the cancellation of “Ex-gratia” and payment of social services such as fuel, TV subscriptions, etc for government officials to reduce government’s expenditure when it assumes power in 2025 to save the country millions of cedis to take care of other essential need of Ghanaians.

The Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress concluded by urging Ghanaians to rally behind the party and vote for its flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 general elections to transform the country.
