Money Not An Incentive

Kwame Yogot

Kwame Yogot

Ghanaian rapper Kwame Yogot has disclosed that he rejects a lot of shows.

According to him, he does not work just for money even after all these years of doing music, and collaborating with greats like Castro, in 2010.

“This is due to my kind of songs, my style, and how I brand myself. If you see me on every platform, would it be appealing to you?”

Kwame Yogot

According to Kwame Yogot, the factors that determine if he will take up a performance offer or otherwise include location and convenience.

“I think about my comfort first and not money and that’s why I have many unreleased songs. I release songs when I am moved in a moment. I have rejected an offer to perform at Party in the Park in the UK, and another show in Germany – I even posted the flyers.”

Kwame Yogot

He bemoaned how event organizers and promoters often use international shows, which come with travel opportunities, to bait naïve artists.

“I don’t allow that. I will negotiate for my due and if you don’t give me something significant, I will delete your flyers. Traveling is not my priority like other artists. I am not needy,” Kwame Yogot said.

The “Biibi Besi” hitmaker observed that staying in Ghana and performing for local shows is far better than performing in other countries for free.

“I’d rather do menial jobs abroad than go there to perform for free. It’s the truth organizers need to hear. They are taking Ghanaian artists for granted,” he asserted.

Kwame Yogot advised his mates in music to take their branding seriously and not cheapen themselves.

Refutes Claims Over ‘Canopy’ Song

Kwame Yogot, debunking all assumptions, categorically asserted that Kuami Eugene’s song titled “Canopy” is not his song.

The song, released recently to celebrate Kuami Eugene’s survival of a near-fatal car crash, had previously sparked controversy and accusations of song theft.

The controversy erupted after King Pormise’s lookalike, Robest Music, alleged that the song belonged to Kwame Yogot. Robest Music claimed that during his stay with Yogot, he had access to the rapper’s unreleased songs, including Canopy.

“When I made the social media post, I didn’t say the song was mine. I don’t know what exactly made people think the song was mine. I wrote ‘I’m tired’, and I am the only one who knows why I posted it. It’s the public that is saying he has stolen my song. I’ve not said any such thing to anyone.”

Kwame Yogot

Kwame Yogot stated, that with Kuami Eugene, he has many unreleased songs including the “Canopy” song and others.

“Even though on some of our collaborations, I am the host and Kuami the guest, the ‘Canopy’ song was for Kuami and I had a guest rap performance on it,” he clarified.

According to Kwame Yogot, the original “Canopy” song with his verse was supposed to be on the album [Kuami Eugene] released recently [Love & Chaos] but it was not added.

“Kuami Eugene featured me on the Canopy song, but removed my voice due to reasons best known to the singer,” Yogot explained.

On why he shared a video accusing singer-songwriter and producer Kuami Eugene of stealing the “Canopy” song from him, Kwame Yogot responded: “It’s my platform and I was mentioned in the video.”

The rapper also mentioned that he does not make his Facebook posts, most of the time, giving the impression someone else published the controversial video.

“As proof, notice the video is not on my Instagram. I post any and everything that has a large following including people’s content,” he said.
