Actress Adejumoke Aderounmu Reportedly Passes On

Jumoke Aderounmu

Nigerian actress Adejumoke Aderounmu, known for her role as Esther in Funke Akindele’s Jenifa’s Diary series, has died. She was 40.

The actress’s brother, Adeola Aderounmu, confirmed her death on his Instagram story after news of the incident went viral on social media.

Aderounmu Adejumoke was a phenomenal actress, who became more famous due to her recurring role in the Jennifa’s Diary movie franchise in 2016 and has over ten movies (English/Yoruba) to her credit as an actress.

Apart from Jenifa’s Diary, Adejumoke featured in Toyin Abraham’s Alakada movie, which was a huge success.

She worked as an on-air personality at Goldmyne Entertainment Box Office as a TV show presenter under Daniel Ademinokan in 2010/2011. She worked at Concert Radio (an online Radio station in Nigeria) from 2012 until 2015.

Then, in 2012, she produced the first season of her TV show, The Lounge with Jumoke, an entertainment show featuring celebrity interviews and fashion opinions.

Her movie credits include ’’la Femme Anjola’’ (2021), ’’Gone’’ (2021), Industreet (2017), The Ex (2015), Jenifa’s Diary (2016), Alakada 2 (2013), Wings of My Dreams (2013), Dazzling Mirage (2014), Unwritten 1&2 (2009), Patriots TV series (2008) and Arugba (2008).

The forty-year-old actress was never confirmed to be married or even had any kids during her lifetime. Most of her personal life was kept private, as people only knew her for her work.

Aderounmu Adejumoke was off the grid when she wasn’t on screen. Her life was pretty low-key, with no controversy attached to her name. Adejumoke’s ability to remain relevant in the movie industry without causing any fuss was remarkable, and it served to protect her image.

Her death has served as a huge blow to the movie industry, especially for Yoruba moviemakers, as she was a staple part of their industry.
