The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Buem Constituency Oti Region has raised serious concerns over what it described as the deliberate vandalism of its campaign materials by alleged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Jasikan Township.

The party in a statement issued by the Constituency Director of Elections, Christian Ziorklui stated that the flags and other paraphernalia which are crucial components of the party’s campaign strategy for the upcoming 2024 General Elections were torn down from electric poles in the Jasikan Township.

“It has come to the attention of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Buem Constituency, that flags and other paraphernalia mounted by the party as part of steps towards the campaign season for the 2024 General Elections, have been intentionally clamped, vandalized, and torn down from electric poles by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)”.

Calls for Restoration Amidst Ultimatum

Moreover, the National Democratic Congress in the Buem Constituency issued a stern 48-hour ultimatum to the ruling New Patriotic Party, demanding the immediate restoration of all alleged vandalized campaign materials in the Jasikan township and its environs.

The party’s Director of Elections in the Constituency admonished that failure on the part of the ruling party in the constituency to comply with its ultimatum will result in the full force of the party’s response in the Buem Constituency.

In addition, the National Democratic Congress in the Buem Constituency further cautioned the governing New Patriotic Party in the constituency to refrain from similar actions and uphold the principles of respect, decency, and fair play in political engagements.

The statement further called for a cessation of actions that incite discord and that have the potentials to disrupt the democratic practice of the country.

“We trust that this notice serves as a clear warning to the NPP and a reminder of the consequences of their actions”
