Mahama Denies Promise to Stabilise Ghana Cedi in 100 Days

The Mahama 2024 Campaign Team has denied publication suggesting that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama had promised to stabilise the Ghana Cedi within 100 days in office if elected as President.

The Mahama 2024 Campaign, in a statement issued, by the Special Aide and Spokesperson to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq clarified that the assertions attributed to the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, Mr Mahama lack true representation of his remarks.

Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari further emphasized that former President John Dramani Mahama did not make such a promise but instead outlined a broader economic recovery strategy for the country when elected as President in the December 7 polls.

“Mr Mahama, with a deep understanding of the economic challenges confronting the country today, did not promise to stabilise the Ghana Cedi within 100 days. Instead, he laid out a comprehensive plan in his remarks at the Ghana CEO Summit to address the challenges, demonstrating his grasp of the situation”.

The Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama further emphasized that the National Democratic Congress flagbearer during his speech, at the Ghana CEO Summit underscored his commitment to stabilising the country’s economy and restoring a stable currency.

She affirmed Mr Mahama’s commitment to launch an urgent economic recovery and fiscal consolidation plan following a national economic dialogue to be held within the first 100 days of assuming office.

Fiscal Discipline and Responsible Economic Management

Furthermore, Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari underscored former President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to fiscal discipline and responsible economic management to achieve currency stability when elected as President.

Highlighting the National Democratic Congress flagbearer’s plans to achieve his vision, Madam Mogtari stated that the measures include pruning government expenditures through the reduction of unnecessary government spending and focusing on essential services.

She also recounted Mr Mahama’s plans to implement stringent measures to combat corruption and waste in government operations in addition to expanding the country’s tax net to increase government revenues without overburdening current taxpayers.

Madam Mogtari also emphasized that the National Democratic Congress flagbearer is committed to streamlining the collection of Value Added Tax by making Value Added Tax (VAT) processes more efficient to improve compliance and collection rates.

In addition, Madam Mogtari reaffirmed former President John Dramani Mahama’s intention to eliminate or abolish the controversial electronic levy to reduce financial pressure on businesses and households as well as reducing burdensome taxes to ease some taxes that hinder business operations and affect household incomes in the country.

The Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari also reaffirmed the Mahama 2024 Campaign’s dedication to transparent and responsible communication with the Ghanaian populace.

She called on media outlets to accurately report former President John Dramani Mahama’s statements, ensuring the public receives correct information.

Madam Mogtari concluded by urging all stakeholders to focus on the substantive policies and plans Mr Mahama has articulated, aimed at stabilising the Ghanaian economy and ensuring sustainable growth, adding that Mr Mahama’s strategy is rooted in pragmatic and achievable goals rather than unrealistic promises.

She also urged media houses to refer to the official statements and speeches of Mr Mahama for further details and accurate reporting, emphasizing its commitment to keep the public well-informed and engaged with the true intentions and plans of the Mahama 2024 Campaign.
