Reggae/Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy has contacted Charterhouse, the organizers of TGMA, to announce the 2019 Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year winner.

The announcement was halted and eventually canceled after a fight between himself and Shatta Wale, leading to their suspension from the award scheme for a year.

Stonebwoy believes he won the award that night and, if confirmed, he would become the only artiste in history to win it three times.

“I have been very hardworking throughout the years. Ever since I won the Ghana Music Artiste of the Year in 2015, I won it again in 2019 but we all saw what happened.

“So I just want to plead with Charterhouse, as honorable as they are to announce the winner, which I am confident was Stonebwoy for 2019, and then this in 2024.”

Stonebwoy delivered this plea during his speech after winning the Artiste of the Year at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

He beat stiff competition from five others namely; Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, and Sarkodie to win the award.

In addition to Artiste of the Year, Stonebwoy won five other awards: Best International Collaboration, Best Reggae/Dancehall Artist, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Dancehall Artiste.

This is Stonebwoy’s second TGMA Artiste of the Year award, his first being in 2015. He is the third artiste in history, besides rapper Sarkodie and the group VIP, to achieve this milestone.

Last year, Black Sherif won Artiste of the Year along with three other awards.

Various celebrities in the country took to their social media platforms to congratulate the Dancehall artiste for this great feat, achieved through hard work and perseverance.

However, some have raised concerns about whether Stonebwoy truly deserved the award, especially considering that King Promise, his closest contender, was favored by some industry players.

Among the celebrities who reacted to Stonebwoy’s win are Afia Schwarzenegger, Bridget Otoo, Tic Tac, Serwaa Amihere, and others.

The TGMA was held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, June 1, 2024, where musicians were awarded for their works over the past year.

The Ghana Music Academy Board is composed of professionals from all sectors of the music industry, including recording artistes, songwriters, producers, mixers, and engineers, ensuring a diverse and well-rounded judging panel.

He acknowledged that despite not winning the highly sought-after Artiste of the Year award at the TGMA 2024, and the overwhelming support, he remains optimistic about the future.

King Promise encouraged his fans to continue supporting Ghanaian music, emphasizing that it’s not just about him but all the artists who contribute to its global recognition.

“Love my Ghanaians, bro, everything!!! I’m thankful we’re here!!! Let’s go. It’s Ghana to the world, not just KP to the world. I love my fans.

“You guys made this my best year yet, and nothing could change that!!! Stars no y3 baako baako 5.”

King Promise

The ‘Terminator’ hitmaker was the one some celebrities and entertainment pundits predicted to win the Artiste of the Year. However, he missed out on the ultimate after winning 3 awards.

King Promise’s ‘Terminator’ was adjudged Best Afropop Song of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year. He also took home the Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year award.

The song, which has touched the hearts of many with its uplifting lyrics and harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary gospel rhythms, stood out among a strong list of nominees.

Nana Poku Ashis opined that the actual contest was among three nominees namely; Stonebwoy, King Promise, and Nacee, and it turned out to be positive.
