Lil Win arrested by Police

Ghanaian movie star, Kwadwo Nkansah, known as Lil Win, has been arrested by police from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Manhyia Divisional Police Command.

His arrest comes in the wake of a tragic accident in which a vehicle he was driving struck and killed a three-year-old boy.

The incident has sparked public outcry, with the family of the deceased calling for justice.

The police cited delays in Lil Win’s arrest due to his health condition, noting that he had been hospitalized at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following the accident.

The authorities stationed a police vehicle at the hospital, ensuring they could take Lil Win into custody immediately upon his discharge.

The actor was picked up from the emergency unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The police have confirmed arrangements in place to put him before the court after taking his statement today, Monday, June 3.

The actor was spotted in a neck collar at the MTTD charge office writing his statement.

Although specific details regarding the accident and Lil Win’s involvement have not been disclosed by the police, he was taken into custody at the Manhyia Divisional Police Command of the MTTD as investigations into the incident continue.

The actor, with a bandage on his head, still went ahead to his movie premiere on the day of the accident.

His management later released a press statement updating Ghanaians about the accident, but the content of the statement has been widely criticized as insensitive to the bereaved family.

The police had been criticized for relaxing the rules of arrest due to Lil Win’s social status.

Before the debut of his new movie, ‘A Country Called Ghana’, Lil Win had granted a media interview in which he was heard saying the movie was good enough to kill.

Critics on social media have linked the accident to his media comment and read all manner of meanings into it.

Pundits Share Insights on Lil Win’s Tragic Accident

Veteran film director, Socrate Safo shared his insights on the tragic accident involving actor Lil Win, which led to the untimely death of 3-year-old Tawiah Ampomah.

Safo suspects that excessive speed played a role in the accident, considering the substantial impact witnessed on the vehicles involved.

He highlighted an eyewitness account that observed one of the vehicles speeding and swerving from its lane, further supporting his suspicion.

Safo emphasized the importance of an investigation to hold the responsible party accountable within the bounds of the law.

“If not too much speeding, there is no way the car involved in the accident would have had such an impact. The owner of the other car spoke about speed, and eyewitnesses also said the same, so how did the driver manage driving on the road? People are criticizing Lil Win because of how he managed his car, not because they hate him.

“An eyewitness stated that the other driver was in his lane and Lil Win’s moved from its lane. The moment you do that, then the question is, Why did you move out of your lane?”

Entertainment pundit, Vida Adutwumwaa criticized Lil Win for how he and his team handled the accident.

She pointed out that the two statements released by Lil Win’s management team, which failed to adequately address the incident, were misguided.

“This issue would not have escalated, but it seems common sense did not prevail, which is why all these issues have arisen. His management team released an initial statement responding to criticisms. At a time when a family had lost a child, they should have addressed the child’s death and consoled the bereaved family.

“Secondly, Lil Win released another statement where he prioritized the postponement of his movie premiere in Sunyani in the headline and mentioned the boy’s death in the third paragraph. Lil Win did not demonstrate any sensibility in the statements he released.”

The accident involving Lil Win’s vehicle occurred on May 25, 2024, in front of Grace Baptist Church in Amakom, Kumasi.
