The Volta Resistance Movement (VRM) has commended the legacy of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the June 4 Revolution.
The group, in a statement, indicated that the June 4 Revolution marked a transformative chapter in Ghana’s history led by the late former Head of State of the country, Jerry John Rawlings, a distinguished son of the Volta Region.
The group further underscored the June 4 Revolution’s enduring legacy of justice, accountability, and resilience that reshaped Ghana as country.
“Jerry John Rawlings’ leadership during the June 4 Revolution was marked by his unwavering commitment to rooting out corruption and promoting social justice. His vision for a fair and equitable Ghana inspired many and brought about crucial reforms that shaped the future of our country”.

The Volta Resistance Movement, while touting the achievement of the late Ghana’s former Head of State, recounted that Mr Rawlings’ tenure saw the establishment of policies that aimed to improve the living conditions of the underprivileged and fostered a sense of unity and purpose among Ghanaians.

Here, the group intimated that by continuing his work, it is highly possible that both the region and Ghana as a country can thrive, adding that Mr Rawlings’ vision and commitment should inspire collective efforts to build a future marked by justice, accountability, and progress.
The Volta Resistance Movement, in a fervent call to action, reaffirmed its non-partisan stance, focusing solely on promoting development and upholding the contributions of the Volta Region alongside all other regions in Ghana.
The statement ended with the Volta Resistance Movement paying tribute to the late former President Jerry John Rawlings’ enduring memory, echoing the sentiment, “Long Live the Memory of Jerry Rawlings, Long Live Ghana”.
The June 4 Revolution in Ghana occurred in 1979, led by the late Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings.
It was a military uprising against perceived corruption and economic mismanagement under the ruling Supreme Military Council.
The coup resulted in the execution of former leaders and initiated a period of political reform, culminating in the transition to the country’s Third Republic with a civilian government headed by Dr Hilla Liman later that same year.
