They highlighted the importance of adhering to the GJA Code of Ethics and the GIBA Code of Conduct, which clearly outline the responsibilities of journalists and media practitioners.

Case in Point: Captain Smart’s Controversial Comments

The coalition cited a recent example involving Blessed Godsbrain Smart, known as ‘Captain Smart’, who made inflammatory remarks on Accra-based Onua TV. He described people who would vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections as ‘beasts’.

“Given the severity of his utterances and the ethical breach, we call on the Board and Management of Media General to take immediate action to mete out appropriate sanctions to Mr. Smart.”
