According to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Akufo-Addo administration has built a record number of roads, surpassing the achievements of all previous governments in Ghana’s history.

Asenso-Boakye boasted that the Akufo-Addo administration had tripled the road construction achievements of the previous Mahama administration, dwarfing their infrastructure legacy.

As evidence, Asenso-Boakye pointed to the remarkable statistic of 12,800 kilometers of roads built by the Akufo-Addo administration, representing a staggering 277% increase over the previous administration’s record, a testament to their unprecedented investment in Ghana’s road infrastructure.

The Minister stressed that these impressive accomplishments are a direct result of the current government’s significant investments in infrastructure development, which have transformed the country’s landscape and paved the way for further growth and progress.

In his opinion, the Akufo-Addo government’s outstanding achievements in expanding and improving Ghana’s road network warrant accolades and appreciation for its dedication to enhancing the nation’s transportation system.

“This government has invested in road construction and has upgraded the road network substantially. In fact, three times more than the previous administration. It is on record that between 2009 and 2016, 4,636 kilometers of road was added to the road network but since 2017 to date, 12,800 kilometers of road has been added to the road network”.

President Akufo-Addo recently declared that his administration has surpassed the road construction achievements of the previous Mills and Mahama governments combined, highlighting his government’s unprecedented investment in Ghana’s road infrastructure.

“This development is unparalleled in the history of Ghana, reflecting a level of commitment and efficiency in addressing our infrastructure needs that have not been seen before”.

The NPP further noted that About 2,079 kilometers of roads in the Ashanti Region have been completed under the current administration.

The NPP indicated that the region had seen significant progress in its road network with major upgrades and enhancement of roads, which had transformed the region’s connectivity and facilitated easy transportation of goods and services.

“The Akufo-Addo government remains focused on its commitment to the dualization of roads in densely populated areas along our major corridors, a key initiative to demonstrate our dedication to decongesting this vital region”.

Furthermore, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, emphasized that the dualization of the Anwiankwanta-Ahenema Kokoben plays a vital role in facilitating the transportation of goods and people.

He indicated that it serves as a crucial connector between the Western, Central, and Ashanti regions and the Northern parts of Ghana, thereby promoting economic growth and development.

“The significance of this 20-kilometer stretch in our transportation architecture cannot be overemphasized. It plays an essential role in our economy by supporting trade and travel across some of the most important regions of our country”.

Meanwhile, Isaac Adjei Mensah, a former Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways and the Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Roads and Transport, has contested President Akufo-Addo’s claims that his administration has constructed 12,830 km of roads across the country.

He dismissed the claim as a blatant falsehood and a cynical ploy to deceive the public and sway their votes in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

He mocked President Akufo-Addo’s road sector achievements, labeling them as meager and a total sham, and further argued that the NPP administration’s claim of expanding the road network to 94,203.17km is merely provisional and entirely unfounded.

The lawmaker from Wassa East constituency set the record straight, revealing that between 2017 and 2024, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has actually built 6,977 kilometers of road network, contradicting the inflated claim of 12,830 kilometers.

The lawmaker asserted that former President John Mahama achieved more in the road sector during his single term than President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia have in their two terms combined, with a total of 8,118 kilometers of roads constructed under Mahama’s leadership.

He expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will emerge victorious in the December 7 elections, enabling them to complete the numerous abandoned road projects across the country, including the unfinished interchanges.
