Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, has underscored the need for Ghana to adapt swiftly to the rapid changes in the global mining industry.

Speaking at the 8th Biennial International Mining and Mineral Conference, hosted by the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) on August 1, 2024, Hon. Jinapor emphasized the importance of developing innovative strategies to ensure sustainable mining practices, environmental protection, and contribution to national development.

Hon. Jinapor stressed the importance of protecting the environment while contributing significantly to national development.

“It is by harnessing the power of innovation that we can maximize efficiency, reduce waste, and create a knowledge-driven mining sector,” Hon. Jinapor stated.

Hon. Jinapor emphasized that technology is the key to addressing the historical environmental and social challenges associated with mining. By promoting energy efficiency and building a circular economy, Ghana can not only increase production but also add more value to the minerals it produces.

“This Conference creates a unique platform for all stakeholders to examine some of the most important issues in the mining industry, particularly the role of technology and innovation in building a green, sustainable, and safe mining industry.”

The conference served as a call to action for industry players and academia to assess both past and current mining practices.
