Yvonne Nelson Discloses Mistrust About Campaign Promises by Political Candidates

Yvonne Nelson

Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson has expressed her skepticism about the promises made by political candidates ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Despite the pledges from the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to support the creative industry, Yvonne Nelson believes that actions speak louder than words.

Yvonne Nelson gave her response when asked about the campaign promises made by Mahama and Bawumia on the creative arts sector, including Mahama’s plans to establish a film village and a special TV channel.

“They are all promising but I just want my colleagues and the industry know that it’s just talk. Politicians love to talk, and you can believe them if you like. But for me and some of us, we would rather concentrate on our businesses and do what we can for Ghanaians, creating employment and helping the future generation.”

Yvonne Nelson

“As for the promises, I don’t even pay attention to them. It’s been said so many times, but their actions should show. Talk is cheap,” she bemoaned.

There have been ongoing criticisms about how governments fail to improve the creative arts sector after being elected into office.

Yvonne Nelson further disclosed that releasing her book “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson” was very therapeutic. She says it took years to work on the body of work, indicating that it has been a wonderful ride.

The actress indicated that everyone has difficulties in their lives and things that they don’t talk to people about, and therefore her ability to tell her story was like therapy for her.

“It’s been a wonderful ride. It was something that I was working on for the longest time. That is what people don’t know, and they thought I woke up one day and used a week to write a book.”

“There is so much more I will want to share, but let’s see what happens,” she added.

Yvonne Nelson, in her book, disclosed that she does not know her father, as the man she thought was her father turned out not to be her biological father.

The book chronicles her childhood and the hardships she had to endure to ensure that she gets to where she is currently.

Acting Break, Not a Goodbye

Celebrated actress and movie producer, Yvonne Nelson, revealed that she has not stopped acting and producing movies.

Yvonne Nelson explained that she has not been actively producing and taking up new movie roles because currently, she has all her attention and resources channeled into the building and establishing her schools.

“No, I haven’t quit acting, I have just taken a break, and I am putting more energy into this [her schools]. This is not my only school. This is actually the newest school. We have the early years, the daycare, and Just Like Mama Daycare.

“So, I have been combining here and there and it is too stressful. We have been building this place and it is hard, although it is just the ground floor. This is just the first phase, but I have been so busy and it’s just overshadowed acting.”

The actress was recently in the news after she hinted that she may be releasing part two of her memoir and best seller, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.’

“The love from people who get it! The hate from those who never read it! The arguments and debates from those who aren’t as bold and the judgments from those with dirtier secrets… I sat back, observed, and said to myself, our society needs more truth; it is drowning in lies. Part 2? Let’s see.”

Yvonne Nelson also highlighted the positive impact of her book tour, dubbed ‘The Real Tour,’ which she described as one of the most fulfilling experiences since the memoir’s release.
