Kaakyire Kwame Appiah Declares His Unwavering Support for NPP

Kaakyire Kwame Appiah

Legendary Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has expressed his unwavering love and support for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The highlife musician said he has been a member of the NPP since 1992.

“I was a polling agent at Darkuman and Masalakyi. So, if you love something, it will work for you.”

He noted that he has made so many tracks for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“I remember 2016, I did ‘one logo logo line y3 p3 onua, y3n tu aba ma Akufo-Addo…,’ it became a hit, but the opposition party attacked me. In 2016, trust me, if we didn’t win 2016, in 2017 I would have run away from the country.”

He emphasized that he would keep going back to politics because he loves the NPP. “And I love Nana, and I still love Dr Bawumia because I know what he can do,” he added.

“When I listen to him, people are calling him Bawu-liar and all these things. I know because of politics, excuse my language, some are hungry so they are trying to also come to power so that they get something.

“So I sat down and decided to do something for Dr Bawumia. I will use that track and that message to campaign for the NPP and Bawumia because we have seen what he has done.”

Kaakyire Kwame Appiah

He further noted that he has “Politics in my veins”, adding that he doesn’t want to turn back and do anything for anybody.

The Highlife musician revealed that he has two tracks for Bawumia.

“It’s never going to go away. No, no. And I was having an interview and the host asked me if the opposition party came around and said do something for them, will you do it? I said no because I belong to this place [NPP].

“And I know we will use, there are so many songs, campaign songs around, but I know we will use this track or tracks for the campaign 2024. When we use it, you will see what will happen, because I said a lot of things that Nana Addo and Bawumia have done.”

The Benkumhene of the Bosomtwe Asaman, Kokofu in the Ashanti Region, explained that, while managing things in his area can be difficult, he is confident that electing Bawumia as president will improve things.

He is, however, appealing to the government to assist in the development of Lake Bosomtwe, as a preferred tourism destination.

He admonished that the tourist site will help the community, and also help Ghana and the Ashanti Region.

“I have so many things to do for my people. But I try to manage it small, small. And what is important for me right now is, I’m praying if Bawumia wins, [he will look at] Lake Bosomtwe and develop the area to attract more tourists.

“That place is so nice, and we have to do something. Let me say, that is the reason why I did this song for Bawumia to win, so that when Dr. [Bawumia] wins, maybe, I can directly go to him and talk to him about Lake Bosomtwe.”

“I think that we can do a canopy walkway there to attract more foreigners,” he added.

Kaakyire Kwame Appiah stated that he has produced about 36 artists in Ghana over the years.

The highlife virtuoso noted that he has 76 albums with the artists he produced.

“Kwame Mickey was taking care of my company; Kaakyire Music Productions. But right now, CDs and cassettes are no more, so everything has changed.”

He further revealed that Osuani Afrifa, Hallelujah Voices, Sibo Brothers, and Paa Solo are some of the artists he has worked with.

“I’ve produced Ex Doe and a lot of people. I think we have about five or seven albums with Paa Solo. Somebody like Reverend Michael Osei Bonsu, Abena Amponsah, Uncle Ato, and many more,” he added.

He also expressed his love for gospel music.

“I love gospel music; that is me, but what I know is that the gospel people followed King David, and we, the highlife people, we are also following his son, Solomon, so I have to blend all of them. I love gospel music.”
