Ablakwa Criticizes Ohene’s Defense Of SSNIT Hotel Sale

Hon. Elizabeth Ohene

Elizabeth Ohene, Chair of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), has asserted that the socio-economic conditions in Ghana have improved under the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing a positive change in the country’s economic landscape.

Ohene commended the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government for its unwavering dedication to providing basic necessities and ensuring that all Ghanaians have access to fundamental rights such as shelter, food, education, and healthcare, which is a testament to their people-centered approach.

According to her, the government has successfully narrowed the socio-economic divide, making essential resources and opportunities more accessible to all, regardless of economic status, and thus empowering every individual to afford life’s basic necessities.

“The NPP government has a strong and unwavering commitment to inclusivity, equity, and justice. We have worked tirelessly during these two terms to accomplish these goals through targeted and good social interventions by enhancing existing programs, restoring those that have been lost, and introducing new initiatives.

“We are building a society where every citizen regardless of their circumstances can live with dignity and hope”.

Elizabeth Ohene

Addressing the crowd at the NPP manifesto launch, Madam Ohene confidently stated that the party’s accomplishments would be surpassed if they were given the opportunity to serve another term.

She asserted that a third term would enable the NPP to build upon its existing successes and achieve even more.

She urged citizens to join hands with the NPP to create a more just and compassionate society, where the vulnerable are empowered to thrive and lead dignified lives.

With the NPP, she assured, Ghanaians can feel safe and secure, knowing they have a government that truly cares for their well-being.

NPP’s Commitment To Inclusivity Lauded

Furthermore, Elizabeth Ohene highlighted the NPP’s commitment to inclusivity, citing the restoration of allowances for nursing and teaching trainees as a testament to the government’s dedication to leaving no one behind, and ensuring that all Ghanaians have access to opportunities and support.

She noted that this move has cleared the path for prospective educators and healthcare workers, allowing them to pursue their passions without financial constraints and achieve their goals.

“The NPP under President J. A Kufuor introduced the LEAP policy. This government under Akufo-Addo has extended the LEAP program increasing expenditure from GH₵ 49 million in 2016 to GH₵ 423 million by 2023. This significant increase has provided vital support to the poorest and most vulnerable in our society”.

Elizabeth Ohene

Ohene praised the government for enacting the Affirmative Action Bill, citing this landmark legislation as a clear demonstration of their unwavering commitment to advancing women’s rights and empowerment.

She applauded the government’s initiative to broaden the National Health Insurance scheme, now encompassing vital services like childhood healthcare, sickle cell treatment, and kidney dialysis, demonstrating a commitment to comprehensive and inclusive healthcare.

The SSNIT Chair underscored the NPP’s unprecedented investment in health infrastructure, noting that this remarkable achievement has significantly enhanced access to quality healthcare for Ghanaians, bringing it closer to their doorstep.

Elizabeth Ohene also highlighted the government’s innovative approach to healthcare accessibility, introducing the world’s largest drone delivery service to transport lifesaving medical supplies.

This pioneering initiative, she noted, has successfully bridged the gap in healthcare access, ensuring that even the most remote communities receive critical medical attention.

“We know that education is the key to ensuring equal opportunities and we have therefore led the way in bringing transformative changes to the sector”.

Elizabeth Ohene

She highlighted the government’s efforts to democratize access to digital learning, distributing over 900,000 tablets to secondary school students and empowering every child with the tools they need to succeed, regardless of their background or financial situation.

Elizabeth Ohene confidently assured that the NPP has a robust vision and a wealth of innovative plans in store to propel the country’s growth and development if re-elected to govern for another term.
