As Ghana inches closer to the crucial 2024 general elections, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has issued a stern warning to all political parties and stakeholders involved in the electoral process, urging them to adhere strictly to the rule of law and refrain from any acts of lawlessness.

During a critical meeting with the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, Dr. Dampare underscored the police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order throughout the election period.

He announced that a comprehensive security strategy had been devised, which includes the deployment of police personnel to all exhibition centres nationwide.

The IGP was resolute in his message, stating that the police would adopt a strict, no-nonsense approach towards anyone attempting to disrupt the electoral process.

“We want to use this opportunity to urge all stakeholders, especially the political parties, to ensure that any issues or concerns that may arise during this crucial phase of the electoral process are handled within the confines of the law.

“We do not want to see any situation where individuals or groups attempt to take the law into their own hands. If that happens, we will not hesitate to act within the full extent of the law to address the situation”.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo-Addo Dampare further assured the public that the police have a rapid response plan in place to manage any potential crisis that may arise during the exhibition of the voters’ register and beyond.

This proactive stance, he emphasized, is necessary to ensure that the electoral process proceeds smoothly, devoid of any incidents that could undermine the country’s democratic integrity.
