Guru NKZ Discloses How Celebrities Influence Politics

Guru

The rapper-turned-politician, Guru NKZ has revealed that anyone who says celebrities cannot influence people’s choices in politics [and other areas] has not watched influence in action before.

The Hiplife star stated that if an artist should support a political figure, adding that the energy his followers project behind the campaign is crazy.

“Influence is not just talk. Influence is when you enter a place, someone sees you and is moved to tears, it’s shocking. It is not by force that every single fan of the celebrities will follow but the diehard fans will. However, some people don’t have diehard fans. That’s understandable.”

Guru NKZ

The Level 300 student of the University of Ghana, Legon, and Students Representative Council (SRC) presidential candidate noted how his pursuit of tertiary education has influenced “a lot” of people to go back to school. He expressed gladness for this.

“In the next four years, you’ll see those who were not interested in school reaching out on social media to inform you of how you led them to change their minds. The kind of messages I get because I’ve gone back to university is crazy, because it’s influenced people positively.”

“Our influence is huge in everyone’s space,” he added.

Also, the Appeals Board of the University of Ghana (UG), Legon, Accra, has overturned the disqualification of Mr Maradona Adjei Yeboah, known in showbiz as Guru NKZ from the Students Representative Council (SRC) presidential race.

“On this side, we don’t lose [peace/victory and love emojis],” Guru NKZ remarked on social media.

After vetting, the UGSRC Vetting Committee noted Guru NKZ was ineligible to run for office because he was a nonresident student of UG, Legon. The Judiciary Board upheld the disqualification.

However, the Vice Dean has eventually directed the names of Maradona Adjei Yeboah (Guru NKZ) and his running mate Jeffery Adu-Yeboah (Jay Lit) should be included in the list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates, effectively returning them to the race.

Speaker for Guru NKZ and Jay Lit’s campaign, Andy Asante Okyere Mensah, stated that Guru was being sabotaged by “the students, the student body, and the SRC”.

“Guru would have won the election by a landslide, hands down. This is what some people want to avoid. It’s definitely [a sabotage],” Andy Asante Okyere Mensah said.

He added the protocol to address the controversy was to write to the Electoral Commission (EC) for an explanation for Guru’s disqualification; petition the judiciary board of the UG-SRC; and write to the Dean of Students and other school leaders.

Guru NKZ stated that he is not negatively impacted by publicly supporting the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.

As Ghana goes to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024, Guru has released a song for Dr. Bawumia titled ‘Fa Steer No Ma Me’ (Give Me the Steering Wheel).

“If I say I have been negatively affected, I’d be lying. If it were so, I would have plainly told you. I do things out of conviction.

“Also, my fans are too discerning and not partisan. They admire me for who I am. They love my songs because they can relate to the stories in them.”

He said, he made a name before he got into politics and his fans understand this.

“Brands supporting themselves is only normal; it helps the work progress. Once I like your idealogy, I am okay to support your party,” the entrepreneur noted.

The University of Ghana (UG) Students Representative Council (SRC) presidential candidate said irrespective of his political affiliation and that of his fellow students and fans, he is loved “and they tell me it is because of such things as my humility”.

“People love you for who you are based on how you react to them, and that’s what I’ve realized,” he stressed.

Guru said he does not disrespect others of a different political cloth, and when he is booked for shows, it is for his artistry and not his political opinion.
