Idris Elba Narrates Asake’s Upcoming Documentary

Asake

Asake unveils a documentary on his musical journey and rise to stardom.

Since breaking into the mainstream in 2022, Asake has risen to superstardom through a steady release of chart-topping hits and albums.

After recently selling out the O2 Arena for the second time, Asake unveiled a new documentary about his musical journey and rise to stardom.

Davido’s “Unavailable” Named One of the Greatest Songs of the 21st Century

Shared on his Instagram page, the documentary is voiced by award-winning British actor, Idris Elba with the trailer kicking off from the inner city part of Lagos where Asake grew up.

The documentary follows the release of Asake’s third album’Lungu Boy’ which features superstars Wizkid, Stormzy, Central Gee, and Ludmilaa.

The tag “Lungu Boy” which loosely translates to ghetto boy is a reflection of Asake’s rise from obscurity to stardom. The documentary appears to be Asake’s attempt to provide further context on his rise from ghetto boy to music superstar.

In August, Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ broke Spotify and US Apple records. The album gained over 5.86 million Spotify streams on its opening day, and on its first day, ‘Lungu Boy’ beat Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album, which stood at 4.9 million streams.

For a Nigerian album on global Spotify, ‘Lungu Boy’ also set a new record for the biggest opening day global streams, with 9.2 million.

Asake has enjoyed remarkable success in the United Kingdom where he has logged all of his three LPs atop the UK Apple Music Album Chart thereby making him the only Nigerian artist to achieve this feat.

Asake Shuts Down 20,000-Capacity O2 Arena for Second Time

Afrobeats singer, Ahmed Ololade Asake, popularly known as Asake sold out his show at London’s highly acclaimed O2 Arena for the second time.

The venue is in the center of The O2 entertainment complex on the Greenwich Peninsula in southeast London, United Kingdom. Asake, who is currently on his ‘Lungu Boy World Tour’, performed at the 20,000-capacity auditorium on September 21.

The O2 Arena, a large venue in London, is a significant milestone for any artiste. Selling out this venue, which means all available tickets have been sold, is a testament to an artist’s popularity and the high demand for their performance.

At Asake’s latest O2 Arena concert, he was presented an O2 Arena sold-out plaque and a BRIT silver plaque for his album ‘Work Of Art’ by British actor, Idris Elba.

Asake’s achievement of selling out the O2 Arena twice in two years puts him in the same league as international superstars like Beyonce, Spicegirls, Rihanna, and the Rolling Stones, who have also sold out this iconic venue. He also joins the ranks of Davido and Wizkid, who sold out the O2 Arena more than once.

‘Work of Art’ became Asake’s second album to receive a BRIT silver plaque after his debut album, ‘Mr Money With The Vibes,’ which also got a silver certification in the UK.

Notable among the guests who attended the show was Wizkid, who joyfully performed alongside Asake.

Last year, Asake also delivered a sold-out performance at the O2 Arena. The music star made a dramatic entrance via helicopter and thrilled the crowd with his hit tracks including ‘Olorun’, ‘Omo Ope’ and ‘Amapiano’.

Asake’s tour which began in Portimao Portugal on June 20, will end on October 6 in Gold Coast, Australia. He had last year delivered a sold-out performance at the O2 Arena.

The ‘Lonely at the Top’ hitmaker gained prominence in 2020 after he put out ‘Lady’, his hit song.

He signed to YBNL Nation in February 2022. That same month, he released his debut extended play, Ololade, featuring his breakthrough song ‘Omo Ope’ and Olamide and the single ‘Sungba.’

He has received several awards and recognitions for his talent. He recently got a Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance’ category for ‘Amapiano’, his hit song with Olamide, the rapper.

In 2023, he clinched the prize for music at the 2023 Future Awards.
