Gospel musician, Sonnie Badu has stated trolls on social media concerning his toe injury were heartbreaking.

According to him, although he was disappointed in the remarks received from netizens, he realized it was the norm. He reiterated his condition was never faked.

“It was a bit heartbreaking but I realized that it was the norm where people also fake stuff. So people are also used to that. Anything genuine that they see they think everyone fakes it. But it’s not everybody that has to fake stuff to impress anything. Some people are doing it genuinely.”

He also shared his greatest pain was met by some young men who made a mockery of him on the Tiktok platform but he still had to stay mute.

“It was so heartbreaking seeing young men mock-throw me on TikTok. It trended on TikTok and the painful part is you just have to be mute. Say no word till it’s time to speak,” Sonnie Badu said.

The musician also highlighted that although being vocal, one ought to sometimes remain quiet in certain situations.

“That’s the interesting thing about me when you think you know me, you realize you know nothing about me. I knew it wasn’t time and that time, I didn’t really wanna speak about my amputation but I realized that part of my therapy in getting healed is talking about it and that’s why I did.”

The UK-based Ghanaian gospel sensation also opened up about a domestic accident he experienced just days before his Rhythms of Africa event in Accra, Ghana.

Recalling the incident where he stumbled on the steps between the garden and the metal railings in his home while cleaning and watering, Badu shared he fell down the stairs and split his toes open. He explained that he was immediately taken to an undisclosed hospital to have the wounds on his legs treated, particularly on his injured toes.

On the day of the concert, Badu said, “I went to the hospital to change the dressing, and I asked the doctor, ‘Will I be able to perform tonight without any complications?’” Given the importance of the event, he was concerned about how the injury might affect his performance.

The gospel artist also mentioned that he had been fasting throughout the week leading up to the major event, which led him to decline the painkillers prescribed by the doctor. “I told the doctor I wasn’t going to take any painkillers because I was fasting,” Badu revealed.

Despite his injury, Badu attended the concert with his stitches still intact. “The stitches came undone while I was dancing,” he admitted, adding that the pain was intense but his dedication to the fans and his craft drove him to push through.

In a startling revelation, Badu disclosed that he had to undergo the amputation of two toes due to the accident. He emphasized that he had the surgery just five days before the concert because there was no way he could cancel it.

When asked about his potential support for a political party in the 2024 elections, Badu remained non-committal. However, he emphasized his willingness to perform for any politician who compensates him.

“This side of Africa, we don’t understand politics very well, and one ex-president advised me that I should not enter into politics because I can be killed. If a politician pays me, I will come and sing for them. I have six children, and I have to feed my kids.”
