NDC Debunks Allegations of ”Power to Loot the Nation”

Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah Chairman National Democratic Congress (NDC)

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has strongly refuted claims that all political parties aim to seize power solely for personal enrichment.

Addressing a large crowd at a rally in the Afadjato South constituency in the Volta Region, Asiedu Nketiah drew a clear line between the NDC’s governance philosophy and that of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He emphasized that, unlike the NPP, the NDC is committed to inclusive governance and the equitable distribution of national resources.

Speaking at the rally in Logba Alakpeti, Asiedu Nketiah stressed that the NDC’s approach to governance is rooted in fairness and equality for all Ghanaians.

According to him, the party does not seek power to exploit state resources but to foster social and human development for every citizen, regardless of their political affiliation or background. He emphasized; “NDC believes that every Ghanaian is an equal citizen of the country without discrimination.”

“We believe that the resources of this country belong to all of us, and they must be deployed in projects and whatever that will be beneficial to all Ghanaians without discrimination.”

This message was central to his speech, positioning the NDC as a party that promotes national unity and equal access to opportunities for all Ghanaians, in contrast to the NPP’s alleged selective policies.

Contrasting NDC and NPP Governance Philosophies

Aseidu Nketiah took the opportunity to draw sharp contrasts between the NDC and the governing NPP. He pointed out that while the NDC’s vision for Ghana emphasizes equality and the fair distribution of resources, the NPP operates with a mindset that some Ghanaians deserve more than others.

“You know that when NPP is in power, that is not the belief they work with. They work with principles that suggest that some Ghanaians are more Ghanaian than others.”

This criticism was a significant part of Aseidu Nketiah’s speech, as he accused the NPP of employing discriminatory tactics and creating an uneven playing field that marginalizes certain groups of people.

Accusations of Vote-Buying Against the NPP

Another key point in Aseidu Nketiah’s address was his accusation that the NPP engages in vote-buying to retain political power. He alleged that rather than focusing on sustainable national development, the NPP resorts to distributing money to voters in exchange for electoral support.

“Whilst our opponent will be sharing money to individuals to influence them, to vote, to retain them in power.”

This accusation underscored the ongoing political tension between the two major parties ahead of the December 2024 general elections.

Aseidu Nketiah’s message was designed to mobilize the NDC base and portray the party as morally superior and dedicated to the country’s long-term prosperity.

Afadjato South: A Traditional NDC Stronghold

The rally was held in the Afadjato South constituency, a traditional NDC stronghold since Ghana’s return to multi-party democracy in 1992.

This constituency has consistently supported the NDC in past elections, and the party is keen to maintain its dominance there in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Asiedu Nketiah’s visit to the constituency was part of a broader campaign effort aimed at securing all possible votes for the NDC in the December elections.

The NDC Chairman urged supporters to stand firm and ensure a resounding victory.

Frank Efriye’s Appeal for Development

During the rally, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Afadjato South, Mr. Frank Efriye, also addressed the crowd.

He appealed to the electorate to vote for him in the upcoming election, promising to usher in a new era of development for the area. Aseidu Nketiah said; “I implore you to elect me to lead a new chapter of development in Afadjato South.”

His message was focused on local development, as he emphasized his commitment to addressing the unique needs of the constituency.

Mr. Efriyei’s appeal aligned with the broader NDC narrative of development and fairness, which was central to the party’s campaign message in the region.

Support from Traditional Leadership

The chief of Logba Alakpeti, Togbe Adjah Adiaku V, was also present at the rally and reaffirmed the area’s longstanding support for the NDC.

His endorsement added weight to the NDC’s campaign in the constituency, highlighting the deep ties between the party and local traditional authorities.

Meanwhile, The Chief reaffirmed the need for the electorates to affiliate with the NDC, pledging the community’s continued loyalty to the party.

This public show of support from traditional leaders is a significant factor in securing votes in the constituency.

Asiedu Nketiah’s speech at the rally in Afajato South marked a clear rejection of the perception that all political parties are driven by self-interest and the desire to loot state resources.

He made a compelling case for the NDC as a party committed to the equitable distribution of national resources and social development for all Ghanaians.

By contrasting the NDC’s governance philosophy with the alleged discriminatory practices of the NPP, Aseidu Nketiah sought to solidify the NDC’s support in its strongholds and boost its chances in the upcoming general elections.
