NDC Accuses Akufo-Addo of Concealing IPP Debts

As Ghana continues to grow and develop, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply remains a critical responsibility of the government.

Protecting the public from the possibility of dumsor is not merely a matter of convenience but a fundamental duty that directly impacts the nation’s economic stability, healthcare services, education system, and quality of life.

Accordingly, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, accused President Akufo-Addo of concealing substantial debts accumulated with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

He criticized the government’s handling of the energy sector, arguing that the failure to address these debts threatens the country’s power supply stability.

Dr. Omane Boamah urged the IPPs to take a firm stance and demand immediate payment, highlighting the urgent need for transparency and accountability in managing the nation’s energy resources.

“Akufo-Addo should have the same audacity to pay Independent Power Producers (IPPs) just as he was paying for his luxurious private jet trips that allowed him to bathe in the sky”.

According to Dr. Omane Boamah, the current government has no justification for subjecting Ghanaians to dumsor, particularly considering the numerous power plants and energy infrastructure it inherited from the Mahama administration.

He emphasized that former President Mahama made significant investments in the energy sector, including installing new power plants and improving transmission systems, which effectively resolved the dumsor crisis during his tenure.

Dr. Omane Boamah criticized the current administration for its inability to manage these resources efficiently, arguing that its failure to maintain and optimize the inherited infrastructure has led to the resurgence of power outages.

The NDC stalwart vehemently asserted that Ghanaians deserve a stable, consistent, and uninterrupted power supply nationwide.

He pointed out that the government’s mismanagement of the energy sector not only undermines the progress made by the previous administration but also negatively impacts the economy and quality of life for citizens.

Dr. Boamah Urges IPPs to Act Promptly

Furthermore, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah advised the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) not to wait until Mahama potentially returns to power before demanding the payment of their debts.

He cautioned that waiting until Mahama potentially returns to power would be unwise, as it would unfairly burden a future Mahama administration with debt repayment issues that should have been addressed by the present government.

Dr. Boamah emphasized the importance of holding the government accountable now to prevent further financial strain and ensure the stability of the energy sector.

“IPPs, don’t sit on the debts! Be bold and demand it now! Avoid hidden debts!

Demand to be paid because the visionary John Dramani Mahama bequeathed this clueless NPP government with the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) that should have addressed the legacy debts of IPPs but for the looting of this NPP family and friends government”.

Dr. Omane Boamah further pointed out that, in a related comparison, the cost of transporting the Ameri thermal plant to Ghana from abroad during President Mahama’s tenure was significantly lower.

He noted that in contrast, the expenses incurred by the Akufo-Addo administration in relocating the same plant from Accra to Kumasi were considerably higher.

The NDC stalwart highlighted that while the Mahama administration efficiently managed the initial importation, the current government has faced challenges that have led to inflated costs for what should have been a straightforward transfer.

Dr. Boamah emphasized that this discrepancy illustrates the government’s lack of effective planning and management in the energy sector, ultimately impacting the overall cost-effectiveness of energy projects in the country.

Accordingly, he urged Ghanaians to vote for John Dramani Mahama as a means to combat corruption and ensure the recovery of all looted funds.

Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized that electing Mahama would send a strong message against corrupt practices and restore accountability in governance.

He believes that Mahama’s track record demonstrates a commitment to transparency and integrity, making him the ideal candidate to reclaim the nation’s resources and promote responsible leadership.
