Mahama’s Lead Points to Likely Victory

According to a national telephone poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, John Dramani Mahama still maintains the overall lead, suggesting he is likely to win the presidential race decisively coming December 2024. 

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, and Nana Kwame Bediako are all making gains, while Mahama’s support has decreased compared to the previous poll.

“The poll shows John Dramani Mahama now leads the ruling party’s candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, 51.1% to 40.6%, followed by Nana Kwame Bediako with 5.6%, Alan Kyeremanten on 2.0% and others, 0.6%.

“JDM lead in the average telephone polls is 52.1%, DMB, 39.8%, AKK, 1.8%, NKB, 5.4%, and others, 0.8%”.

According to Global InfoAnalytics, the results of the poll revealed significant fluctuations in voter support when adjusted for different demographic factors.

The polls weighted by the gender of registered voters showed that John Dramani Mahama has experienced a decline in support, falling to 50.6%.

In contrast, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia experienced a notable increase, rising to 41.3%. Meanwhile, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen (AKK) captures 1.9% of the vote, and Nana Kwame Bediako (NKB) secures 5.5%. 

Other candidates collectively account for 0.6% of voter preferences.

However, the dynamics shift when the poll is weighted based on ethnicity. In this scenario, Mahama’s support improved significantly, climbing to 52.9%. 

Conversely, Bawumia’s support declined to 39.4%. In this context, Kyerematen and Bediako see slight decreases, with Kyerematen at 1.7% and Bediako at 5.3%. 

The percentage of votes for other candidates remains unchanged at 0.6%. 

According to the polls, John Dramani Mahama experienced his most significant drop in support among first-time voters. 

However, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia now leads in this demographic, securing 43%, while John Mahama follows with 33%. 

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen (AKK) holds 4%, and Nana Kwame Bediako captured 20%.

Mahama Leads Among Floating Voters

Furthermore, the poll revealed that among floating voters, John Mahama maintained a dominant lead with 57% support. 

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia followed with 21%, while the New Force’s Nana Kwame Bediako received 16%. 

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the presidential Candidate of the Alliance for Chanage captured 5%, and other candidates accounted for 1%.

“The poll shows that 25% of voters who voted for Nana Addo in the 2020 election and intend to vote again in the 2024 elections will vote for John Mahama, 60% will vote for Dr. Bawumia, 2% for Mr. Kyeremanten, 5% for Kwame Bediako, and 8% for other candidates.

“52% of voters say their economic condition has worsened compared to a year ago, 26% say it has gotten better and 22% say it has stayed the same”.

According to Global InfoAnalytics polls, a significant 64% of voters believe that Ghana is headed in the wrong direction, reflecting widespread concern about the country’s current trajectory. 

In contrast, only 28% of respondents feel that Ghana is moving in the right direction, indicating a more optimistic viewpoint among a smaller segment of the population. 

Additionally, 8% of voters expressed no opinion on the matter, suggesting a lack of certainty or engagement regarding the nation’s future. 

These findings highlight the prevailing sentiment among the electorate and underscore the challenges facing the current leadership.  “On the job approval of the president, 33% of voters approve of his job performance, 59% disapprove and 8% did not have an opinion”.

The polls also indicated that 49% of voters assess the government’s performance as poor or very poor, while 34% rate it as good or very good. 

According to the polls, only 4% of respondents consider the performance excellent, and 13% remain neutral in their assessment. “Economy tops voters’ issue with 74%, jobs, 68%, and education, 41%”.
