Developments On Lebanese-Israeli Border Spark Concern

Hezbollah disclosed on Friday, October 25, 2024, that it killed and wounded more Israeli soldiers on the outskirts of the southern Lebanese town of Odaisseh.

Israel’s army has sustained significant losses in recent days in border fighting with Hezbollah. At least 10 Israeli soldiers were killed in attacks in the past 24 hours with dozens more wounded.

“At 5:20pm on Friday [14:20 GMT] a Zionist force consisting of 12 soldiers was targeted with a guided missile that inflicted confirmed injuries. After 20 minutes, a Hummer military vehicle with four soldiers inside intervened to support the first force. It was also hit with a guided missile, which led to their deaths and injuries.”

Also, Hezbollah stated that its fighters used two anti-armour guided missiles to target Israeli forces advancing into Marwahin in southern Lebanon, “inflicting confirmed casualties.”

The armed Lebanese group added that another guided missile hit a Merkava tank, “which led to its burning and the killing and wounding of its crew.”

Additionally, the militant group said that its fighters launched a drone attack targeting a military base in northern Israel after claiming rocket fire at the same area.

Hezbollah fighters launched “an air attack with a swarm of explosives-laden drones” on the base located east of Safad, the group said in a statement, shortly after announcing it had fired “a salvo of rockets” at the town.

Hezbollah also said it targeted the northern Israeli town of Karmiel with a large missile salvo.

According to hospital sources cited by local media, two people have died after being wounded by shrapnel from a rocket barrage launched from Lebanon into northern Israel. “A 22-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were pronounced dead after they were brought in critical condition,” a hospital spokesman said in a statement.

Earlier, the Israeli army said that “approximately 30 projectiles” from Lebanon were intercepted near the Arab town of Majd al-Krum in the Galilee region.

The Israeli army is claiming that it hit weapons production sites when it launched major air raids on Beirut.

It released aerial footage of the explosions, adding that it also hit an intelligence headquarters and air defence capabilities of Hezbollah.

Israeli attacks across Lebanon have killed several dozen people each day for roughly the past month, many of them civilians.

Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz condemned the attack that killed two people and wounded others in a rocket barrage launched by Hezbollah into northern Israel.

Katz wrote on the social platform X, “Hezbollah’s attack today on Majd al-Krum, a Muslim town near Karmiel, again proves that Iran’s proxies kill Jews, Christians, Muslim Arabs, Bedouins, Druze, and anyone different from them.”

Reality Hitting Israel Again In The Face

Alon Liel, former Director General at the Israel’s Foreign Ministry, noted that the feeling in Israel when Hezbollah leader Nasrallah was killed few weeks ago was that the war was over.

He said that the belief was that Hezbollah would collapse after his death, but it did not happen. “The fighting is still going on and Israel lost 10 soldiers in the last 24 hours. The reality is hitting us again in the face,” the former diplomat said.

He stressed that the situation in the conflict is very much affected by the upcoming presidential election in the US next month.

“The leadership of Israel would like to see a Trump victory and I think at this moment, so close to the elections, everything Israel does – either on Gaza, Lebanon and Iran – is affected by American considerations.”
