Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), today began a pivotal four-day campaign tour across the Ashanti Region, one of Ghana’s most politically and economically significant regions.

James Agyenim-Boateng, Spokesperson for the NDC running mate, in a statement, indicated that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s tour is geared towards deepening the opposition party’s connection with communities across 12 constituencies in the Ashanti Region.

“The four-day visit will take her to Asawase, Afigya Kwabre South, Subin, Manhyia South, Nhyiaeso and Asante Akim South Constituencies. She will also campaign in Sekyere Afram Plains, Juaben, Ejisu, Obuasi West and Atwima Kwanwoma Constituencies”.

He pointed out that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang would use the tour to highlight both her and former President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to development, job creation, and financial empowerment, especially for women.

As part of her scheduled engagements, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang according to James Agyenim-Boateng will connect with diverse demographics, including professional groups, trade associations, artisans, and Muslim women leaders.

In each of these locations, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is expected to engage with local leaders, market women, National Democratic Congress supporters, and grassroots community members.

She is also expected to present the party’s vision for the Ashanti Region, underscoring the achievements made under the erstwhile NDC’s administration, including the ultra-modern Kejetia Market, advancements in the region’s airport infrastructure, and the establishment of new health facilities.

These projects, according to James Agyenim-Boateng reflect the NDC’s long-standing dedication to fostering progress and addressing the unique needs of Ashanti Region residents.

NDC-Mahama’s Strategy for National Development

Moreover, the Spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress running mate, James Agyenim-Boateng pointed out that beyond reflecting on past accomplishments, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang aims to discuss NDC’s future-focused initiatives and former President Mahama’s strategy for national development, with a special emphasis on women’s economic participation.

Her message according to James Agyenim-Boateng would focus on the NDC, under former President John Mahama’s leadership commitment to development and job creation, particularly aimed at empowering women financially.

According to him, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will deliver “a compelling case that a vote for former President John Dramani Mahama is a vote for development, jobs, and financial empowerment.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s visit comes at a critical time as the NDC seeks to challenge the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, a known stronghold of the ruling party.

Her presence in this region, with its historical significance and sizable voter population, is part of the NDC’s broader strategy to galvanize support ahead of the December 2024 elections.

By directly engaging communities in the region, the NDC is making a clear statement about its intention to win over a broader base of supporters in the Ashanti Region through targeted developmental promises and economic initiatives.

The tour’s highlights will include Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s address to a gathering of Muslim women, an audience that the NDC believes represents the core values of its campaign themes—development, inclusivity, and economic empowerment.

She will also attend meetings with professional groups, trade associations, and artisans, communities vital to the economic fabric of the Ashanti Region.

Through these engagements, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will advocate for a government led by former President John Dramani Mahama, that would create sustainable jobs and support small businesses to drive economic resilience across the region.

With her tour underway, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is set to send a message that underscores the NDC’s vision for Ghana: a government that prioritizes its citizens’ economic empowerment, infrastructure development, and social inclusion.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, on the other hand, has commenced a five-day tour of the Northern Region as part of his effort to rally for support ahead of the December 7 upcoming general elections.
