Skales Voices Frustration With Nigerian Police

Skales

Nigerian artist, Skales has voiced his frustration with the Nigerian police, criticizing the excessive number of checkpoints on the roads, particularly on Orchid Road.

On October 28, 2024, the singer took to X to express his disdain for the police and what he described as their abuse of power and their treatment of the public. “My hate for Nigerian police still stands… Very horrible set of humans … Police wey no get money go dey stress fellow poor man knowing fully what they’re doing is wrong,” he added.

“knowing fully well that they are just taking advantage of the power given to them… e be like say na how to stop Benz them dey teach dem sef… They just mount for Orchid Road shamelessly stressing youths to end up begging for money… No honor at all useless people.”

Skales

Pointing out the numerous checkpoints on Orchid Road specifically, he quizzed why the police profiled luxury car drivers and intentionally targeted them to beg for money.

“Like @NigeriapolicePR… why do you have like all your policemen on the orchid road? They can’t do me shit cos I’m no criminal but it’s that legal to have like 3 to 4 checkpoints just 2 minutes drive away from each other.

“All they do is stop Benz and ask very stupid questions and when they don’t get what they want na either insult or beg for money … look into it o cos now I go just dey wear the camera for body they post everything online … it’s super annoying.”

Skales

Skales has had a bit of bad blood with the authorities over time. About a year ago, the ‘Shake Body’ singer took to social media to lament over the fact that his house was raided by the EFCC, and he even released footage.

Skales Sets the Record Straight on Career

Nigerian singer, Skales recently spoke out about his journey in the music industry, addressing the support he’s received or, in some cases, hasn’t received from his colleagues.

In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter), Skales clarified that his former label mate, Wizkid, did not play a role in shaping his career.

Instead, he credited Banky W, his former boss at Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), along with Olamide and Timaya, as those who genuinely helped him in the early stages of his music journey.

“Put some respect on my name… I don tell una the only person sef wey help me na Olamide and Timaya and Banky W… Much respect to Burna … You guys always love to see artists go against each other but I’ll set the record straight …

“I’m a don with this music and all I wanna do is make music and stay away from all that negative toxic bullshit … So love your fav and stop cooking up bullshit stories…”

Skales

The post has sparked conversation among fans, some of whom feel Wizkid contributed to Skales’ rise. One user, @Perfect_Mipo, commented, “Wizkid made you.”

In a response, Skales respectfully dismissed the claim, saying, “Ask am make him tell una how … got respect for him but he didn’t help me … if anything Banky deserves the praise and respect for believing in teenagers.”

Skales and Wizkid both began their professional careers with EME in the early 2010s, under the mentorship of Banky W.

They were two of the first artists signed by the label, and their time there brought them recognition and fanfare in the Nigerian music industry.

Despite leaving EME after achieving stardom, Skales has made it clear that his growth was supported by key individuals who believed in him from the start.

In his own words, he’s “done with all that negativity” and urges fans to do the same, respecting each artist’s unique path and contribution to the industry.
