Mahama to Host Governance Forum, Reaffirming Vision for Good Governance

Former President John Dramani Mahama, NDC 2024 Presidential Candidate

Former President John Dramani Mahama has begun a two-day tour of the Oti Region today, initiating his visit from Kwamekrom in the Biakoye constituency.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq., Spokesperson for the Mahama Campaign, in a statement, noted that in the Oti Region, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer plans to address several pivotal issues affecting both the region and the nation.

She emphasised that former President Mahama’s campaign would focus on job creation, women’s empowerment, and skills training for youth—prominent areas of concern that he has pledged to address through concrete, sustainable policies when elected as President in the upcoming elections.

“The start of the Oti Region tour follows his participation in Sunday’s launch of a national campaign for peace by various religious bodies, demonstrating his commitment to fostering unity and stability in the nation.

“While on the tour, Mahama will focus his message on critical issues affecting the region and the country’s growth and development”.

Highlighting the details of former President Mahama’s tour of the Oti Region, Lawyer Mogtari noted that the NDC flagbearer will engage directly with residents, community leaders, and local businesses to discuss his vision for Ghana’s future under his potential leadership.

Job Creation: Building a Resilient Economy

One of former President John Dramani Mahama’s core messages on this tour according to Joyce Bawah Mogtari is his plan to combat rising unemployment with a suite of economic policies aimed at generating jobs across the country.

Central to this vision, she pointed out is the proposed “24-hour economy” that would create opportunities around the clock, maximizing productivity and employment.

Additionally, Lawyer Mogtari indicated that former President Mahama’s $10 billion “BIG PUSH” infrastructure initiative aims to catalyze growth through significant public investment in roads, schools, hospitals, and other critical infrastructure projects.

According to Lawyer Mogtari, this plan will directly create jobs and spur economic activity in various sectors, adding that to further bolster employment, former President Mahama has committed to launching a “One Million Coders” program to equip young Ghanaians with digital skills, positioning them for careers in the growing tech industry. “

“He believes that jobs not only provide income but also dignity and purpose. The Mahama administration will prioritise investments in sectors that generate employment for our youth’.

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs with Financial Access

Moreover, the Spokesperson for the Mahama Campaign, Joyce Bawah Mogtari emphasized the critical role of women in the country’s economy and underscored former President Mahama’s plans to include specific initiatives to support women-owned businesses.

“Mahama recognises that women play a pivotal role in the economy and, together with Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, are committed to empowering women entrepreneurs through the Women’s Development Bank to support women businesses to thrive and facilitate access to capital”.

This initiative, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, argued reflects former President  Mahama’s recognition of the challenges women face in accessing credit and his resolve to address these barriers head-on.

Youth Skills Training: A National Apprenticeship Program

In a bid to equip young Ghanaians with practical, job-ready skills, Lawyer Mogtari reiterated the NDC flagbearer’s proposal to introduce the nationwide apprenticeship program that will partner with skilled craftspeople across the country.

This program, she emphasized will offer government-subsidized training in trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, tailoring, and other crafts, which are in high demand but often under-resourced in terms of training opportunities.

The initiative will also incentivize Master Craftsmen and women to accept apprentices, ensuring that young Ghanaians receive hands-on training that aligns with the demands of the job market.

“It will also help develop a skilled young workforce prepared to meet the demands of the job market”, she added underscoring the significance of the NDC’s National Apprenticeship Program.

In conclusion, Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq., Spokesperson for the Mahama Campaign indicated that the two-day campaign in the Oti Region, would allow former President Mahama to engage in dialogue with constituents, sharing his vision for a united, economically strong Ghana.

His itinerary, Joyce Bawah Mogtari stressed includes meetings with local leaders, visits to businesses, and several public addresses, allowing him to directly connect with voters and listen to their concerns.
