Commitment to Public Sector Legal Resources

President Akufo-Addo opened his remarks by acknowledging the essential role of public sector lawyers in maintaining a functioning, effective public service.

He noted the importance of supporting these legal professionals with the resources needed to perform their responsibilities effectively.

“My government’s commitment to the legal sector extends to the development of infrastructure.”

The President emphasized, illustrating his administration’s resolve to bolster the sector’s physical resources.

As part of this effort, he announced the construction of 100 courthouses across Ghana and the development of 121 residential units for judges, thus enabling an environment where legal practitioners can thrive and perform without logistical hindrances.

“Alongside the construction of the magnificent 10-story law house in Accra, which will soon house the office of the attorney general.”

Expanding the Legal Workforce

A significant point in the President’s speech was his administration’s efforts to expand Ghana’s legal workforce.

This, President Akufo-Addo noted, is an ongoing commitment that his government is proud to support.

“We’re also undertaking the historic endeavor of calling some 4,500 lawyers to the bar since October 2021, doubling the legal workforce in our country.’’

This move is expected to strengthen public sector legal services, providing the workforce with a greater capacity to serve the public and manage the complexities of a modern legal environment.

A Vision for Nationwide Legal Infrastructure

This ambitious plan will not only bring legal services closer to citizens across Ghana but will also create an integrated legal framework, enhancing both the accessibility and quality of legal services for the public.

“Looking ahead, I’m inspired by the attorney general’s vision for a law house in each region, creating dedicated spaces for public legal services across Ghana. This vision of a strong, united legal framework is the legacy we aim to build.”

This framework, once realized, will lay the foundation for a more resilient and accessible public sector legal system, supporting citizens and fostering confidence in the legal processes that govern the country.

Addressing public sector lawyers directly, President Akufo-Addo praised their dedication and underscored the high standards expected of them.

According to him, these values are critical to maintaining public trust and ensuring the delivery of justice.

“Ladies and gentlemen, members of the bar, as public sector lawyers, the path we walk is one that demands courage, commitment, integrity, and a ceaseless pursuit of excellence.”

Government Support for Continuous Development

In his closing remarks, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his administration’s pledge to support the continuous development of Ghana’s public sector lawyers.

Recognizing the challenges posed by the evolving legal landscape, he assured that the government will equip legal teams with the skills and resources needed to address contemporary issues.

“Government is committed to supporting your development, ensuring that our legal teams are well prepared to face the challenges of our time.”

This commitment to professional development is expected to strengthen the sector’s resilience and enhance its ability to respond effectively to both local and global challenges, thus ensuring a robust legal backbone for the nation.

President Akufo-Addo’s remarks painted a picture of a forward-looking administration dedicated to building a resilient and accessible legal system in Ghana.

From infrastructure investments to workforce expansion and continuous professional development, his administration’s initiatives underscore a comprehensive approach to enhancing the legal sector.

This commitment, President Akufo-Addo emphasized, is part of a legacy that aims to build a “strong, united legal framework” for future generations.

Through such initiatives, Ghana’s public service will be better positioned to uphold the rule of law and serve its citizens with excellence.
