President Akufo-Addo Commissions Flowerpot Interchange, Reaffirms Unparalleled Infrastructure Achievements

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his administration’s achievements in transforming Ghana’s infrastructure, declaring that his government has constructed more roads and interchanges than any previous administration in the country’s history.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Flowerpot Interchange in Accra, the President emphasized his commitment to national development, citing the project as a symbol of progress and unity.

“This project is not merely the opening of a new infrastructure,” President Akufo-Addo stated. “It is the unveiling of a vision for Ghana’s future, one that is driven by a commitment to lasting progress, inclusivity, and national pride.”

The Flowerpot Interchange, located in the heart of Accra, marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s efforts to address urban traffic congestion and improve mobility. Designed to alleviate bottlenecks in one of the city’s busiest corridors, the interchange stands as a testament to the government’s pledge to deliver transformative projects that benefit all Ghanaians.

Since taking office in 2017, the Akufo-Addo administration has prioritized infrastructure as a cornerstone of its development agenda. The President highlighted the scope of completed projects across the country, underlining their impact on regional connectivity, economic growth, and quality of life.

“In the Greater Accra Region alone, we have successfully completed the Pokuase Interchange, the Tema Motorway Interchange Phase I, the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase I, the East Legon Underpass, and now, the Flowerpot Interchange.”

President Akufo-Addo noted, “These projects are not just roads and bridges; they are lifelines for commerce, education, and healthcare.”

Beyond the capital, the President pointed to projects such as the Tamale Interchange in the Northern Region and the Suhum Interchange in the Eastern Region, emphasizing that the government’s infrastructure drive spans the entire nation.

“These projects represent the scale of our ambition,” he said. “They speak to a Ghana that is continually advancing, creating opportunities, and improving lives for everyone.”

In his address, President Akufo-Addo outlined key components of his administration’s road network improvements. Through initiatives such as asphalt overlays, road rehabilitation, and new construction, the government has worked to modernize Ghana’s transportation infrastructure.

“Additional flagship projects such as the dualization of Adenta-Dodua, Takoradi Aguna Junction, and Kasowa-Winneba are progressing remarkably well.

“Each of these projects underscores our resolve to build an infrastructure network that will uplift every Ghanaian in every corner of the nation.”

As the Flowerpot Interchange officially opened to traffic, President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to take collective responsibility for preserving the nation’s infrastructure. He appealed to motorists, pedestrians, and local authorities to adopt a culture of care and safety.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Flowerpot Interchange is a legacy for future generations.

“I call on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the National Roads Authority, traditional rulers, and all Ghanaians to join hands in safeguarding this asset. Let it serve its purpose for the long term.”

The President also emphasized the importance of safe driving practices, encouraging all road users to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic regulations.

“Let this interchange serve as a proud testament to what we can achieve together,” he said. “A Ghana that builds, advances, and aspires towards greatness.”

As President Akufo-Addo looks ahead, he reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to building infrastructure that meets the needs of a growing population. The administration aims to continue pursuing projects that align with the broader vision of a prosperous and inclusive Ghana.

“This interchange is just one among many. From the northern savannahs to the southern coastlines, and from east to west, we are building a new Ghana—one where roads, bridges, schools, and hospitals rise as symbols of a nation that works for everyone.”

With projects like the Flowerpot Interchange, the government continues to demonstrate its resolve to lay the foundation for a modern and connected Ghana.

As the nation celebrates this milestone, Ghanaians are reminded that these achievements are not merely about roads and bridges—they are about building a future where progress is felt in every home, community, and region.
