Mahama’s Leadership Revitalizes NDC, Focuses on Development.

President John Mahama's 120-day assessment.

President John Dramani Mahama

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, spokesperson for the John Mahama campaign, expressed optimism about the NDC’s prospects in the current electoral period.

She stated that the NDC has reclaimed its position as Ghana’s most attractive political party during this campaign season.

Mogtari highlighted the party’s diverse appeal, noting its broad-based composition, which includes young people, middle-class Ghanaians, and various other demographics, setting it apart from other political parties in the country.

“We have a middle-class, largely rural constituency and certainly a large chunk of the working class. It is a very interesting microcosm, so you would find that a lot of volunteers are middle-level and working class across the country.

“We also have a lot of young youth leaders across the country, the majority of them. You can see from the level of engagement in parliament. Most of our parliamentarians are parts student activists and youth leaders”.

Mogtari further emphasized that the NDC stands at the center of Ghanaian politics, thanks to the charismatic and dynamic nature of its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama. She described Mahama as youthful and buoyant, qualities that resonate strongly with the electorate.

She highlighted the former President’s legacy as potentially “phenomenal,” not only because of his contributions to Ghana’s democratic growth but also due to the way he has made the NDC more appealing to Ghanaians.

According to Mogtari, Mahama’s leadership has revitalized the party, enhancing its connection with diverse segments of society.

The NDC communicator noted that many Ghanaians trust the party’s campaign because they see Mahama as validated and vindicated by the current economic challenges.

She argued that no political leader today understands and relates to Ghana’s issues better than Mahama, adding that the prevailing economic conditions have led to a significant sense of regret among the public, making them more receptive to his leadership.

Mogtari also pointed out Mahama’s passion for agriculture, describing it as a testament to his commitment to Ghana’s development.

She stressed that with agriculture contributing about 33% of the country’s GDP, Mahama’s focus on this sector positions him as a favorable and forward-thinking leader.

Furthermore, Joyce Bawah Mogtari explained that one of the key challenges faced by the previous Mahama administration stemmed from the prolonged election petition case following the 2012 elections.

She noted that the nine-month legal battle cast doubts on the legitimacy of the Mahama government and, combined with propaganda from the then-opposition NPP, created obstacles to effective governance.

Despite these challenges, including the severe energy crisis during the NDC administration, Mogtari highlighted Mahama’s significant achievements in the energy sector.

She emphasized that his leadership not only stabilized the power situation but also saved the country USD 300 million by reducing gas importation.

“You know, people appreciate John Mahama’s intervention in infrastructure. The World Bank has told us as far back as 2008 that for Ghana to achieve fully middle-income status, what we needed was to bridge the infrastructure deficit.

“That is why Mahama invested in the health sector… look at the CHPS compounds across the rural communities. Which is why I maintain that the NDC’s core appeal lies in Ghana’s rural communities. The interesting thing about that mass constituency is that each and every region in Ghana has its rural community”.

She highlighted that a major challenge across various sectors of the economy is the limited access to funding, which she described as a “miraculous mirage” for many people, especially for the rural community.

Mogtari argued that with the NDC’s consistent commitment to addressing the needs of Ghanaians, John Mahama presents a compelling case for why voters should support him in the December 7th elections.

She emphasized that meaningful development is impossible without infrastructure, making a strong case for the NDC as the better choice for Ghana.

Mogtari also dismissed the NPP’s claims that the NDC does not support social interventions, reaffirming the party’s dedication to holistic national development.
