Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has made a passionate appeal to Ghana’s security agencies, media practitioners, and others participating in the special voting exercise ahead of the 2024 general election.

In a detailed address, he outlined his administration’s achievements since 2017, emphasizing the strides made in security, infrastructure, media development, and healthcare. He also shared his vision for the nation if given the mandate to lead as president.

“When you go to the voting booth, vote for me, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the NPP. I am number 1 on the ballot.

“Encourage your colleagues and fellow personnel to do the same. Together, let us keep moving forward.”

Dr. Bawumia commended the tireless dedication of Ghana’s security forces, acknowledging the critical role they play in maintaining peace and order.

He highlighted the significant challenges his administration inherited, including internal disputes and a severely stretched workforce. Addressing these issues, he said, “The need for comprehensive reform was clear, and we have taken bold steps to strengthen our security institutions.”

“The Ghana Police Service now boasts over 46,000 officers, almost 13,000 more than we inherited.

“The fire service personnel count has doubled to 15,000. Our prison service and immigration service have seen similar growth in numbers. We have massively upgraded your tools and infrastructure.”

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s investments in tools and infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency.

“The police service has received over 900 vehicles and three helicopters, alongside the deployment of more than 11,000 state-of-the-art surveillance cameras nationwide.

“Living conditions for security personnel have also improved, with the construction of new barracks and housing units.”

Highlighting conflict resolution efforts, Dr. Bawumia mentioned the successful resolution of the protracted Durban chieftaincy dispute, which he described as a model for addressing similar conflicts in the future.

Looking ahead, Dr. Bawumia unveiled an ambitious plan to construct forward operating bases to strengthen border security and further increase security personnel by 20,000.

He also promised to expand the country’s surveillance network by deploying an additional 50,000 cameras nationwide, ensuring a more robust and comprehensive security framework.

Dr. Bawumia extended his gratitude to the media, recognizing their critical role in Ghana’s democracy.

He highlighted initiatives undertaken by the NPP government to create a conducive environment for media practitioners to thrive.

“We introduced the right-to-information app. We have expanded broadband and internet services across the country.

“And introduced the University of Media Arts and Communications. With the introduction of 5G services in Ghana, your work is even going to thrive better.”

Addressing economic challenges, Dr. Bawumia outlined measures aimed at fostering private sector-led growth. He pledged to implement a flat tax system and a tax amnesty program to drive economic expansion.

Additionally, he proposed linking Ghana’s natural resources, such as gold, to the exchange rate to stabilize the economy and boost investor confidence.

“We are creating an environment where businesses can thrive,” he stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to making Ghana a hub for private sector innovation and investment.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated his commitment to improving healthcare delivery across Ghana. He pledged to complete the ongoing Agenda 111 hospitals and expand the Zipline drone service to ensure essential medical supplies reach even the most remote areas.

“Our vision is to provide affordable and quality healthcare to every citizen, no matter where they reside,” he said, contrasting his approach with that of his political opponents.

In a bid to foster inclusivity, Dr. Bawumia promised to continue empowering women across Ghana by providing opportunities, support, and resources to enable them to thrive in various spheres of life.

Dr. Bawumia called on security personnel, media practitioners, and other special voters to support his candidacy and vote for the NPP. He expressed gratitude for their partnership since 2017, noting that their dedication has been instrumental in maintaining national stability and progress.
