In a candid reflection on John Dramani Mahama’s triumphant electoral journey, Mrs. Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq. Spokesperson for the John Mahama 2024 Campaign, has eulogized John Mahama for his tenacity and highlighted the NDC’s success and its implications for Ghana’s future.

Mrs. Mogtari opened up about the experiences and challenges faced by Mahama, the campaign team, and the Ghanaian populace.

“I am feeling very humbled. It has taken me quite a while for everything to actually make sense to me,” Mrs. Mogtari remarked setting the tone for an introspective recount of the journey.

Reflecting on John Mahama’s political career, Mrs. Mogtari emphasized the resilience and perseverance that have defined his leadership. She traced his path back to the 2012 election, highlighting the unique challenges he faced over the years.

“He had actually served on the unexpired term of Professor Mills’ presidency and then gone on to win the 2012 election. But, as history will have it, all of us know what happened then—he was held to ransom for nine months, and the legitimacy of that particular win was challenged and undermined.”

Mrs. Mogtari recounted how Mahama’s tenacity was tested again during the 2020 elections when he contested and led Ghana into its first hung parliament.

She noted that his return to politics and subsequent 2024 victory were monumental achievements, underscoring his unparalleled experience and resilience.

Mrs. Mogtari interpreted Mahama’s decisive victory as a profound statement. She highlighted;

“Ghanaians have spoken out in a way that none of us even anticipated. This whole 56.55% win is actually a vote of no confidence in the New Patriotic Party and President Akufo-Addo.’’

She expressed admiration for the Ghanaian electorate’s discernment and the overwhelming goodwill John Mahama had garnered, particularly in regions traditionally viewed as opposition strongholds.

With great power comes great responsibility, and Mrs. Mogtari acknowledged the weight of expectations on John Mahama’s shoulders. Winning 13 out of 16 regions, including significant gains in traditionally opposition-dominated areas like the Eastern and Ashanti regions, signaled a renewed faith in his leadership.

“This puts on your shoulders a responsibility like no other—perhaps not since Nkrumah has such a burden been placed on any government’s shoulders.

This is a man who is compassionate, sensitive to the plight of everybody and appreciates what it means to serve. With the right support, John Mahama will deliver on his promises.”

She contrasted John Mahama’s leadership style with that of the incumbent administration. She vehemently decried;

“We deserve this win, and make no mistake. I don’t want anybody to try to water down what has happened. Historic as it may be, unprecedented as it may be, it is also a repudiation of the impunity, arrogance, disrespect, and the failure of the Akufo Addo- Bawumia administration.’’

Mrs. Mogtari highlighted John Mahama’s deep understanding of Ghana’s challenges and his readiness to tackle the nation’s economic woes. She recalled his foresight during the COVID-19 pandemic when he warned of the economy’s fragile state, an insight that proved prescient.

She recounted that the Akufo Addo-Bawumia convincingly told Ghanaians that Ghana was already at a crossroads even before the pandemic.

 Mrs. Mogtari added that John Mahama’s interventions often went unrecognized due to political biases from the Akufo Addo administration. She lamented;

”I don’t want anybody to try to take away the fact that, JM suffered enormously in the hands of propagandists and that, he was also maligned in ways that we ought not to have tolerated.’’

Moreover, she reiterated that the acrimony of the 8th parliament was nothing but a failure of the NPP government.

Mrs. Mogtari also acknowledged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s concession. She added;

“In his speech, Mr. Mahama graciously admitted that Dr. Bawumia had shown statesmanship. You go into battle, you lose miserably—the earlier you actually concede, the better, knowing the conduct of the campaign and things he [Bawumia] said.’’

She further emphasized the need for political leaders to take responsibility and demonstrate humility, qualities she believes are essential for effective governance.

She reaffirmed her confidence in John Mahama and his ability to restore economic sanity and democratic integrity. She remarked;

“Ghanaians have come of age, and this victory is a testament to their maturity and discernment. With John Mahama at the helm, I am confident that Ghana’s best days lie ahead.”

Mrs. Joyce Bawah Mogtari’s Esq. reflections encapsulate the profound significance of John Mahama’s victory, framing it as both a mandate for change and a call to action for a brighter, united future.
