President Akufo-Addo to Chair National Honours and Awards Ceremony

President of Ghana, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will oversee a significant National Honours and Awards Ceremony today, Monday, December 30 2024.

The event, scheduled to be held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), will be a memorable occasion celebrating the remarkable contributions of individuals to Ghana’s progress.

This ceremony, marking one of President Akufo-Addo’s final official duties, underscores his administration’s dedication to acknowledging and celebrating selfless service and outstanding accomplishments. 

A notification signed by Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare informed nominees that the event would commence at 11:00 a.m. and provided details on the formal and traditional dress code for the occasion.

The National Honours and Awards Ceremony highlights the importance of national unity and pride by recognizing individuals whose efforts have significantly impacted the nation’s development. 

From public officials to private citizens, awardees are honoured for their exceptional achievements in various fields, inspiring Ghanaians with their patriotism, hard work, and creativity.

Nominees and their loved ones are invited to attend this historic event. Each honoree is permitted to bring up to two family members, underscoring the shared joy and pride of their achievements. 

President Akufo-Addo according to the Chief of Staff’s notifications signed the invitation cards, adding a unique and personal touch to the occasion’s splendour.

Award Categories

The awards are divided into five esteemed categories, each celebrating different levels of excellence and contribution: The first is the Order of the Star and Eagles of Ghana – the highest honor for exceptional service to the nation.

The second is the Order of the Star of Ghana, which recognises outstanding leadership and extraordinary achievements. The third is the Order of the Volta, which is awarded for invaluable contributions to politics, the arts, and social services.

Others include the Medal for Gallantry, which is reserved for acts of courage and self-sacrifice. and the Grand Medal Celebrating significant contributions to national and community life.

These categories reflect Ghana’s dedication to promoting a culture of excellence, where noteworthy achievements are duly acknowledged.

Aligned with Ghana’s rich traditions, nominees are encouraged to wear traditional attire such as Kente and Fugu, alongside formal suits.

This fusion of tradition and modernity captures the dual identity of Ghana, blending cultural pride with contemporary elegance.

The event showcases Ghana’s diverse cultural heritage and serves as a call to action for citizens to excel in their respective fields. By recognizing these individuals, the state reinforces the message that selflessness and dedication are highly valued.
