Shatta Wale’s 2017 hit track ‘On God’ has made it to Billboard’s Top Afrobeats Songs chart.

This comes a few weeks after the Ghanaian superstar performed the track in Jamaica with Vybz Kartel on stage.

Shatta Wale performed three songs at the 30k capacity National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, including ‘On God’.

‘On God’, inspired by doubts about his high-flying career, quickly became a fan favorite after its release in 2017.

The song recently debuted on the Billboard US Aftobeat chart securing the 35th position. The chart is led by Push 2 Start by South Africa’s Tyla who has occupied the position for four consecutive weeks.

According to Ghanaian music executive, Bra Bryt, ‘On God’s’ entry into the charts is a great example of how well thought-through performances influence streaming success.

“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t make a fuss about this but this happens to be a special case in the sense that we hardly see the aftermath effect of the foreign shows our acts play.

“So for Shatta Wale, an artiste tagged as a local champion, to reach this height after a five-minute performance, it’s a big deal. Also, it shows the positive side of making thoughtful and insightful song selections for specific territories.”

Shatta Wale’s performance in Jamaica came with as much praise as backlash. While many heralded him for chasing his dream of meeting and performing with his idol Vybz Kartel for over a decade, others criticized the ‘On God’ hitmaker’s set list in Jamaica.

The event featured a star-studded lineup, including Spice and Busta Rhymes, and drew a massive crowd of music lovers.

Musician Shatta Wale has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to reform Ghana’s entertainment industry as his new administration begins work.

The popular artist made his appeal in a Facebook post, urging the President to improve conditions for musicians and other creatives.

He emphasized the need for changes that would make the industry more professional and sustainable for future generations.

Shatta Wale noted that upcoming artists face challenges similar to those endured by established musicians like himself. He expressed hope that reforms would help younger talents see music as a viable career and not just a hobby.

“Letter to our new President of Ghana I wish our new President, John Dramani Mahama can also reform our music system to attract more professionals on radio and television, similar to the appointment of new ministers when they assume power.

“The entertainment industry needs that change. The younger ones coming can’t go through what some of us have been through. My humble 🙏 wish… just for the next generations to come and see this music business as a job and not just fun.”

Many Ghanaians responded positively to his post, praising him for advocating for the industry.

They also expressed hope that President Mahama would address the concerns raised by the musician.

John Dramani Mahama was officially sworn in as the President of the Republic of Ghana during a ceremony at the Black Star Square. He becomes the sixth president of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

The swearing-in ceremony was led by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo.

President Mahama’s running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, was also sworn in, making history as Ghana’s first female Vice President.

Shatta Wale sparked reactions with Mahama letter.

“Respect senior Shatta Wale , I love you so much… No musician in Ghana can be compared to you bossu , may you live long.”

Samuel Takyi Plange

“The youths will always love, respect and support u, God richly bless you King.”

Richard Partey Kwabla

“Not easy promoting music in Ghana but we believe in our leaders n people ahead of us like Shatta Wale who’s trying his best for the industry to grow…one love SM4LIFE.”
