Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament, Ketu North.

The Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana has emphasized the urgent need for integrating technology into education to prepare students for the rapidly evolving job market.

Marking the International Day of Education, celebrated globally under the theme “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” the MP underscored the pivotal role of education in equipping communities for a future shaped by artificial intelligence and automation.

“Education is not just the foundation of progress but also the key to empowering individuals to navigate and influence the advancements shaping our future,” Hon. Agbana remarked, highlighting the transformative power of education in an age of digital transformation.

Referencing the Future of Jobs Report for 2025, Hon. Agbana noted the profound shifts in job landscapes due to technological advancements.

He stressed the importance of aligning Ghana’s educational outcomes with the demands of the digital age, advocating for the incorporation of information and communication technologies (ICT) and related disciplines into the curriculum.

“As policymakers, legislators, and leaders of our communities, we have a duty to ensure that we improve our educational outcomes in line with the rapidly evolving demands of this digital age”.

The initiative, he explained, is designed to provide schools with the necessary technological tools and resources to foster 21st-century learning.

“In a world increasingly driven by artificial intelligence and automation, access to technology is not a privilege but a necessity. Through this initiative, we are empowering our students to embrace technology while preserving their creativity, critical thinking, and humanity.”

The MP emphasized that ensuring equitable access to technology is fundamental to achieving educational inclusivity, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

While advocating for technological adoption, Hon. Agbana also stressed the importance of maintaining human values and agency in education.

He pledged to work with stakeholders to ensure that educational systems in Ketu North promote innovation without compromising the creativity and empathy that define humanity.

Hon. Agbana urged a collective investment in education to secure not only the future of Ketu North but also the broader human spirit that drives progress. “Let us invest in education to secure not only the future of our constituency but also the human spirit that drives progress,” he concluded.

The International Day of Education is a global observance dedicated to recognizing the importance of education in fostering peace and development.

This year’s theme shines a spotlight on the intersection of artificial intelligence and education, calling for efforts to ensure that technological advancements enhance, rather than erode, human agency.

Hon. Agbana’s statement aligns with these global goals, reflecting his commitment to preparing Ghana’s youth for a future that balances automation with human-centered values.
