The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has officially introduced Edward Abambire Bawa as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ushering in a transformative chapter for the state-owned energy giant.

Mr. Bawa succeeds Joseph Dadzie, who served as CEO until January 16, 2025, and takes the helm at a critical juncture in GNPC’s evolution within Ghana’s energy sector.

In an official statement, GNPC expressed full confidence in Mr. Bawa’s ability to lead the Corporation, citing his extensive experience and strategic vision.

“Hon. Bawa brings over two decades of experience in energy policy, management, and public service to the role.

“A distinguished leader and energy sector expert.”

His appointment is seen as a key step in advancing GNPC’s mission to strengthen its role as a driving force in Ghana’s energy landscape and Africa’s energy transition.

Hon. Bawa’s academic and professional achievements underscore his suitability for this critical role. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Global Energy Policy at EUCLID University, further enhancing his already impressive credentials.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast and an MBA in Finance from the University of Liverpool.

Hon. Bawa’s career trajectory has been defined by a commitment to advancing Ghana’s energy sector. From 2017 to 2025, he served as a Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency, during which he played a pivotal role in shaping energy legislation and policy.

His contributions on the Parliamentary Committees on Mines and Energy and Communications were instrumental in driving reforms critical to Ghana’s energy transformation.

Further highlighting his expertise, Hon. Bawa served as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Energy.

In this role, he spearheaded stakeholder engagement and public advocacy for key energy initiatives, bridging the gap between technical energy policy and public understanding.

GNPC stated that Hon. Bawa is committed to positioning GNPC as a key player in Ghana’s energy sector and a major contributor to Africa’s energy transition.

“His leadership extends beyond government, with technical and advisory roles on various energy committees and task forces,” GNPC noted in its statement.

Hon. Bawa’s leadership comes at a time when GNPC is navigating a dynamic energy landscape characterized by a growing emphasis on renewable energy, fluctuating oil prices, and the need for strategic resource management.
