Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Maria Zakharova has said that despite US President, Donald Trump’s repeated promises to bring the war in Ukraine to a speedy end, there has been no clarity on a plan so far.

She said that the US needs to come up with a policy to end the nearly three-year-long conflict.

Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have not spoken since the US President’s inauguration, according to public statements from officials on both sides.

She stated that the new US administration has yet to clarify its position on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, making it hard to determine what role it could play in any future talks.

“As for the possible US role in resolving the crisis around Ukraine, everything will depend on the concrete actions and plans of the new administration.

“There have been a lot of words, a lot of statements so far, but there is no clarity on the steps that could be taken.”

According to the diplomat, Russia will wait for concrete steps from Washington before making any assessments. “It would be premature to discuss the prospects for negotiations or anything at all in this context,” the Spokeswoman said.

She asserted that Moscow has been clear about its approaches to Ukrainian settlement and stated them multiple times. “So we are all set. As for Washington, they need to formulate their policy,” she said.

The diplomat was also asked whether Moscow feels disappointed in US President Donald Trump and his policies.

“In order for us to feel disappointed by something, we first need to feel fascinated by something. We didn’t feel fascinated by anything for a number of reasons, including our experience. We didn’t feel fascinated by anyone or anything.

“We are ready for substantive work with everyone who professes a mutually respectful approach on the basis of international law, bilateral agreements, universal human norms of civilized communication that are developed through an experience of doing business, understanding that deeds must match words, that people should bear responsibility for what they say or do.”

Early this week, Trump said that he would continue funding Ukraine’s fight, but added that he wants the country to provide rare earth metals in return.

Zakharova interpreted US President Donald Trump’s statement that the United States is interested in obtaining rare-earth metals from Ukraine and is seeking relevant guarantees from Kiev.

“Apparently, the US President saw that Kiev was ready to sell Ukraine out for the sake of retaining US military and financial support and apparently decided to approach this conflict from a commercial point of view.

“You know, what US President Trump said to Vladimir Zelenskyy doesn’t even look very much like a deal. It looks like he’s telling him to go ‘fetch’. And this is a command that the Kiev regime knows how to follow.”

She stressed that the Americans have had their eyes on Ukraine’s natural riches for some time.

“With the help of the corrupt Kyiv regime, they managed to lay their hands on, in particular, farmland, including fertile land, without much effort. Now that they’ve gotten hold of this fertile soil, the sponsors of the Kiev regime are looking for what else is left there. This time, they’ve turned to what’s under the ground.”

Additionally, the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman stated that a freeze of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict or temporary truce is unacceptable, as these measures will be exploited by the West to bolster the military capabilities of the Kiev regime.

Zakharova emphasized that Russia requires “reliable, legally binding agreements and mechanisms that would guarantee the prevention of a resumption of the crisis.”

Trump’s Proposal For Gaza Deemed “Counterproductive”

Separately, Zakharova called Trump’s proposal for Gaza “counterproductive” and accused him of fueling “tension in the region.”

She stated that the main thing now is to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance to all those in need.

“We believe that the main task today is to ensure the implementation of agreements between Israel and Hamas.

“Any populist, frivolous, or shocking arguments about any other palliative measures at the present stage are counterproductive and do not contribute to solving the problem, but only fuel tension in the region and to all the already extremely aggravated problems.”
