Mohbad’s father, Mr. Aloba, has sparked controversy by questioning why the late singer bought land in his son Liam’s name.

In a viral clip from a TikTok live session on February 26, 2025, he expressed confusion over why Mohbad made such a choice.

Speaking on Mohbad’s property, Aloba wondered why his son’s property was in his grandson, Liam’s, name, noting that as a father, he had never bought anything in Mohbad’s name.

“I don’t know how they managed to do that and when he came back from his tour, I met him, and he said he had bought two new plots at Elepe but in Liam’s name to purchase that land, which I do not know the reason. As a father to Mohbad, I have never bought anything in Mohbad’s name in my life, but they bought those two plots of land in Liam’s name.

“All the land documents were with Wunmi’s mother except only one at Gberigbe. It was given to me when he was alive. He said he wished to build a church for me as a pastor. That is the only one I have access to.”

Mr. Aloba

He further revealed that his late son told him he bought the land through Wunmi’s [Mohbad’s wife] mother. “He said he bought two acres of land at Agbowa through Wunmi’s mother and a plot at Elepe, which has been transferred to Gberigbe,” he added.

This comes after a magistrate court in Yaba, dismissed charges against Mohbad’s ex-record label boss, Naira Marley, Sammy Larry, and Prime Boy, over alleged involvement in Mohbad’s death on September 24, 2023.

Despite a series of court hearings and police investigations, the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death remain unknown, with his corpse yet to be buried.

His comments triggered strong reactions online, with many accusing him of prioritizing property over his late son’s legacy.

Some social media users interpreted his remarks as entitlement, highlighting a recurring theme of African parents viewing their children as financial investments.

Critics pointed out that Aloba had previously lamented his living conditions shortly after the late artist’s burial, further fueling speculation that his primary concern was inheritance.

Many defended Mohbad’s decision, praising him for breaking generational cycles by ensuring his son’s financial security.

As discussions intensify, the debate underscores broader cultural conversations about inheritance, parental expectations, and financial independence in Nigerian families.

“Do you have any money to buy properties talk more about buying in Mohbad your son’s name, keep quiet Mr. Man.”

Chukwuma Chinel

“This man needs to be checked… Is he ok at all… What’s wrong with buying property in our son’s name? Firstly abeg pull off that white garment you are a shame to us.”

Temi Dayo

“People can now see that this man is fighting for property, not justice. God, please don’t make me this kind of a father in Jesus’ name.”

Adeniyi Ogbolu

“This man dey take something abi? Because he must go and listen to what he vomited from his mouth.”

Olawale Micheal

“The truth is coming out… The properties were the issue all along… A father buys properties in his name or the child’s name. It was Mohbad’s choice, even if e buy am for Tinubu name.”

Mohbad’s Father Denies Approving Nurse’s Release

Mr. Aloba

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer refuted claims that he dismissed the nurse who reportedly treated his son before his death.

Aloba’s remarks come in response to allegations made by Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, during an interview.

Wunmi had claimed that after informing Aloba about the presence of the nurse and her role in the events leading to Mohbad’s death, he dismissed the issue.

During a TikTok live, Aloba emphasized that he had never seen the nurse in question, either in person or online, refuting claims that he had any interaction with her.

“I’ve never set my eyes on the nurse. If I had seen her, it would have been on the internet. We haven’t met physically. The nurse and I never had any conversation at all.

“Since I started narrating what happened to Mohbad that night, I never mentioned the nurse. I didn’t see any nurse there; nobody introduced the nurse to me.”
