The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is shifting gears in its quest to increase Ghana’s oil production, with the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, calling on its upstream subsidiary, GNPC Exploration and Production Company (EXPLORCO), to take a pivotal role in this mission.

During a recent working visit to EXPLORCO, Mr. Amoah emphasized the need for speed, efficiency, and strategic collaboration in order to quickly ramp up production and secure Ghana’s status as a key player in the global oil and gas sector.

“EXPLORCO is a key driver of GNPC’s ambition to strengthen Ghana’s position in the oil and gas industry.

“Our goal is to rapidly increase oil production, and to achieve this, it is crucial that we prioritize speed in our operations.”

Mr. Amoah added, “GNPC must return to being an industry leader,” underscoring the urgency of the mission ahead.

The acting CEO stressed that efficiency, operational excellence, and a focus on timely results are paramount to ensuring Ghana’s long-term energy security and economic growth.

Ghana’s oil and gas sector has long been a cornerstone of the country’s economic development, but it faces challenges that require strategic intervention and visionary leadership.

Mr. Amoah’s call for action at EXPLORCO is a part of GNPC’s broader agenda to boost oil production and restore the nation’s oil industry to its former glory.

Ghana’s oil production has seen periods of stagnation in recent years, and as the sector continues to grow, the need for innovation and efficiency becomes even more critical.

The GNPC aims to address these challenges by implementing measures that will not only increase production but also ensure sustainability and environmental responsibility in the process.

Mr. Amoah noted that GNPC and EXPLORCO must collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including international investors, to enhance Ghana’s petroleum industry and improve regulations that impact the sector.

“Explorco plays a crucial role in achieving the government’s broader energy sector agenda.

“We need to focus on attracting investments, forging partnerships, and working with regulatory bodies to create an environment conducive to the sector’s growth and expansion.”

A key component of the strategy discussed during the visit was the alignment of EXPLORCO’s objectives with the government’s vision of early production to reverse the decline in oil reserves.

As part of the national energy agenda, the government is keen to see reserves brought into production quickly to prevent further drops and to revitalize the oil and gas sector.

The goal is not just to maintain current production levels but to increase them, positioning Ghana as an emerging powerhouse in Africa’s oil industry.

Mr. Amoah emphasized that aligning EXPLORCO’s goals with the government’s vision is essential for securing the future of the oil and gas industry in Ghana.

This involves leveraging existing resources, improving operational efficiency, and capitalizing on new exploration and production technologies to maximize output and minimize operational costs. “We must bring reserves to early production, halt the decline, and resume growth,” Mr. Amoah stated, reinforcing the urgency of a proactive approach to securing Ghana’s energy future.

Mr. Michael Aryeetey, Managing Director of EXPLORCO, responded positively to Mr. Amoah’s challenge, affirming the subsidiary’s commitment to supporting GNPC’s vision.

In a statement following the visit, Mr. Aryeetey outlined EXPLORCO’s short-term objectives, which include enhancing production output through collaboration, innovation, and improved operational efficiency.

“We are fully committed to supporting GNPC’s broader mission to transform Ghana’s oil and gas sector.

“We understand the critical importance of increasing production, and we are prioritizing investments in technology, training, and infrastructure to achieve these goals.”

Additionally, Mr. Aryeetey pointed to the importance of fostering strong partnerships and collaborations with both international and local stakeholders.

By tapping into the expertise and resources of global oil companies while strengthening local capacity, EXPLORCO aims to contribute to the growth of the oil sector, ensuring long-term sustainability and resilience.

Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah’s visit to Explorco marks a significant step in GNPC’s ongoing efforts to reinvigorate Ghana’s oil and gas sector.

By prioritizing speed, efficiency, and strategic expansion, GNPC aims to bolster its production capacity and solidify its position as a major player in Africa’s petroleum industry.

Explorco’s commitment to aligning with GNPC’s vision will be instrumental in achieving these ambitious goals and ensuring long-term energy security for Ghana.
