King Charles III Unveils Personal Playlist

Davido and King Charles III

King Charles (born Charles Philip Arthur George) has shared his excitement as he has put together a playlist in collaboration with Apple Music.

He discovered the gift of Nigerian singer and five-time Grammy nominee Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke.

It was earlier reported that Davido secured a slot on King’s Music Room, an exclusive playlist selected by King Charles III to promote Commonwealth artists.

Speaking about the song’s inclusion, the monarch noted that he enjoys pidgin English and recalls his admirable attempt to deliver a speech in Nigerian pidgin English on his last visit to the West African country.

The ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker made it as the Nigerian on the list, alongside late South African music great Mariam Makeba, whose song ‘The Click Song’ also made the cut.

‘Kante,’ featuring Fave, is one of the hit songs from Davido’s Grammy-nominated album, ‘Timeless’, which was released in 2023. The album was commercially successful, setting numerous streaming and charting records.

His Royal Majesty King Charles III also unveiled a personal playlist of songs that bring him happiness—featuring none other than ‘Mpempem Do Me’ by iconic Ghanaian highlife musician, Daddy Lumba.

He explained how he discovered Highlife music “and the urge to dance to that pulsating rhythm” when he first visited Ghana in the 1970s.

“On my most recent visit to Ghana in 2018, I found myself dancing along to the next track, which is by Daddy Lumba- who is regarded by some as the greatest musician Ghana has ever produced,” he added, before playing “Mpempem Do Me”.

The playlist, shared as part of The King’s Music Room, a special one-off programme on Apple Music 1, was recorded at Buckingham Palace and offers a rare glimpse into the monarch’s musical preferences.

It reflects an eclectic mix of genres ranging from disco and reggae to opera and highlife and includes contributions from artists across the Commonwealth.

Speaking about the playlist, the English monarch noted that he wanted to share the music that had made him happy.

“I wanted to share with you songs which have brought me joy. They evoke many different styles and many different cultures. But all of them, like the family of Commonwealth nations, in their many different ways, share the same love of life in all its richness and diversity.”

King Charles III, the head of the Commonwealth, stated that he hopes listeners like the playlist and discover new songs through it.

“I can only hope you have enjoyed these few songs I have had time to share with you. Perhaps you have heard some of your own favourite pieces- and perhaps you may have discovered something new.”

King Charles III issued a powerful statement to celebrate Commonwealth Day.

The British monarch penned a delightful wish for all the 56 nations of the Commonwealth.

He took to Instagram to share a video showcasing flags from all the countries that make up the Commonwealth.

The caption of the post read, “From Kenya to Kiribati, Canada to Cameroon: wishing everyone from the 56 nations of the Commonwealth a very happy Commonwealth Day today!”

On March 10, Prince William, Princess Kate, Queen Camilla, and Princess Anne attended the special event at Westminster Abbey.

The statement further read, “The day will be marked with a service at Westminster Abbey, the launch of The King’s Baton Relay and the countdown to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and the presentation of the inaugural Commonwealth Peace Prize.”

A day prior to celebrating the big day, Charles shared a message on the Royal Family’s official website to highlight the importance of the event.

He penned, “These gatherings are important for helping all Commonwealth nations to tackle the challenges of the day, yet they also play another vital role.”

Notably, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie missed the big event due to their commitment.
