The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, joined industry leaders to witness the commissioning of a state-of-the-art service center by FLSmidth (FLS) in Ghana.

The event marked a significant milestone in the company’s expansion efforts and reinforced its commitment to supporting the mining and cement industries in Ghana and the broader West African region.

FLSmidth, which has evolved from a local machinery supplier to a global leader in full flowsheet technology, continues to set the standard for efficiency and sustainability in the industry.

Initially focused on cement, the company has expanded its expertise into mining, where it is pioneering solutions tailored to meet the demands of modern industry challenges.

With its latest service center in Ghana, FLSmidth aims to enhance its operations and promote responsible mining practices both locally and globally.

A Platform for Investment Engagement

The event provided a valuable platform for engagement between key industry stakeholders and the Ghana Free Zones Authority.

Dr. Mary Awusi seized the opportunity to present the benefits of the free zones scheme, positioning it as a strategic vehicle for attracting investment into Ghana.

She emphasized that the Authority remains committed to fostering an environment that supports industrial growth, job creation, and economic transformation.

Recognizing the potential synergies between FLSmidth’s operations and the objectives of the Free Zones Authority, the CEO of FLS, Mr. Mikko Keto, expressed keen interest in exploring the possibility of joining the free zones scheme.

A follow-up meeting has been scheduled to discuss the potential benefits and framework for collaboration.

With Ghana striving to enhance its industrial base, the involvement of a global player like FLSmidth in the free zones program could bring a new wave of investment and technological advancement to the sector.

The company’s focus on sustainable and innovative solutions aligns with Ghana’s broader industrialization agenda, making it a strategic partner in the country’s economic transformation efforts.

Collaboration for a Stronger Mining Sector

In addition to FLSmidth’s expansion, the event underscored the broader need for partnerships that drive efficiency and sustainability in Ghana’s mining industry.

Delivering the keynote address at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr. Sulemanu Koney, highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry players and investors.

He reiterated the Chamber’s commitment to fostering a conducive business environment that enables investors to operate efficiently.

As Ghana remains one of Africa’s leading gold producers, strengthening the country’s mining ecosystem is crucial for maintaining competitiveness and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The presence of the Ghana Free Zones Authority at the event further signified the government’s commitment to supporting industrial growth by creating investment-friendly policies.

By positioning the Free Zones scheme as a facilitator of business expansion, the Authority aims to attract global companies looking to establish a strong footprint in Ghana.

FLSmidth’s Global Expansion Strategy

FLSmidth’s commissioning of its Ghana service center comes as part of a broader global expansion strategy.

The company has announced plans to establish three new service centers in Ghana, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia within the year, along with the expansion of four existing centers in other strategic locations worldwide.

This expansion is set to strengthen its service network and reinforce its capacity to provide cutting-edge solutions across different markets.

With Ghana being a key player in the mining and cement industries in West Africa, the establishment of a dedicated service center is expected to bring substantial benefits.

The facility will enhance local operations, improve service delivery, and create new opportunities for skilled employment. It also positions Ghana as a strategic hub for FLSmidth’s West African operations, further integrating the country into the global industrial supply chain.

As Ghana continues to position itself as a preferred destination for industrial investment, collaborations such as these are crucial in driving economic growth.

With FLSmidth’s continued expansion and the Free Zones Authority’s strategic engagement with investors, Ghana is poised to strengthen its industrial capacity, attract new business, and create a more robust and sustainable economic future.
