Italian-born Ghanaian prodigy Patrick Nuamah has attracted interest from across Europe following a breakthrough 2024/25 season with Serie B side Brescia Calcio.

The 19-year-old winger has caught the eye of English Championship outfit Portsmouth and Dutch Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar, with both sides reportedly keen on securing his signature during the ongoing summer transfer window.

Nuamah, known for his explosive pace, dribbling ability, and technical prowess, is widely regarded as one of the most promising young talents in Italian football.

Having featured in 24 matches during the past campaign and netted two goals, his development has not gone unnoticed by scouts from top European leagues.

According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, both Portsmouth and AZ Alkmaar have stepped up their monitoring of the teenage starlet as they look to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season.

While Nuamah is still under contract with Brescia until 2028, the level of interest from abroad could force the Italian club into making a tough decision.

Brescia are understood to be keen on retaining their young asset, but the lure of playing in a more competitive league particularly with clubs that can offer European football or a pathway to top-tier action may sway both the player and his representatives.

Portsmouth Leading the Chase

Among the clubs, Portsmouth are believed to be the frontrunners in the race for Nuamah. The south coast club is aiming to reinforce its squad as it targets promotion to the English Premier League, following an ambitious rebuilding project under their current management.

The club has placed a strong emphasis on acquiring young, dynamic talent capable of adapting to the physical demands of English football, and Nuamah fits that profile perfectly.

His ability to play on either flank and his work ethic make him an ideal fit for a side that prides itself on high-tempo, attacking football.

Sources close to the negotiations have indicated that Portsmouth have already made initial inquiries and are exploring a potential deal that could see Nuamah move to Fratton Park either on a permanent basis or initially on loan with an option to buy.

AZ Alkmaar Offering European Platform

Dutch side AZ Alkmaar are also in the frame and are believed to be preparing their own approach.

Known for their excellent youth development and ability to nurture emerging talents, AZ could offer Nuamah a direct route into European competition, having consistently qualified for UEFA tournaments in recent years.

A move to the Eredivisie would provide the youngster with valuable exposure and the chance to develop in a league renowned for its technical and tactical focus.

For AZ, Nuamah represents a long-term investment and a potential asset who could follow in the footsteps of players like Calvin Stengs and Myron Boadu, who used the platform to launch themselves into top European clubs.

International Future Still Undecided

Born in Italy to Ghanaian parents, Patrick Nuamah has represented Italy at U18 and U20 levels, showcasing his talent on the international youth stage.

However, he remains eligible to switch his international allegiance to Ghana, a prospect that remains open as he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Azzurri.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been actively monitoring the progress of heritage players across Europe, and Nuamah could become the latest in a growing list of dual-nationality talents to don the Black Stars jersey.

With Ghana in a transitional phase and looking to rejuvenate its national team ahead of upcoming World Cup and AFCON qualifiers, Nuamah’s inclusion could be a strategic boost.
