Helicopter Crash Victims

Ghana is reeling from a wave of sorrow following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians — a moment that has plunged the nation into collective grief.

Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, Founder and Presiding Bishop of Perez Chapel International, has joined millions in mourning the sudden loss, describing the victims as “men of courage, conviction, and commitment to national service.”

In a heartfelt message released on behalf of Perez Chapel International, the Global Charismatic Ministers’ Network, the Bible Society of Ghana, and his family, Archbishop Agyinasare extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, the Armed Forces, and the entire country.

“Among them were: Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, NDC, Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate, Obuasi East, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo. These were men of courage, conviction and commitment to national service. They died not in vain, but in pursuit of peace, protection of our environment, and defence of our democracy.”

Archbishop Charles Agyinasare

He called on the nation to allow the sacrifice of these heroes to ignite a renewed spirit of excellence and unity in public service.

“May the God of all comfort surround us with His peace in this moment of national grief,” he added, quoting Psalm 116:15: “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”

The crash has sent shockwaves across the country, especially within the political and security circles, as it involved high-profile leaders, including two sitting ministers and senior military personnel.

General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, led a national prayer for comfort and healing following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including two serving ministers of state.

Speaking on Day Three of the 2025 Greater Works Conference in Accra, the founder of ICGC paused the service to intercede for the grieving families and the nation at large.

“This morning, eight men woke up just to do their duty,”Otabil told thousands of worshippers at the ICGC Christ Temple East.

“Some were ministers, some were government officials, others were military officers. What should have been a routine assignment has turned into national mourning.”

He described the crash as a deep national wound, adding that while the entire country is shaken, “but for these families, it is personal—because it is their blood that has been lost.”

“Wives have lost their husbands, children their fathers, and siblings their brothers… May the Holy Spirit enter their homes, enter their living rooms, enter their hearts, and breathe life into families that are devastated.”

Meanwhile, several Ghanaian celebrities have taken to social media to express their grief and condolences to the families of the helicopter crash victims.

In a brief but heartfelt message shared on his social media page, King Promise expressed his sympathy for the families affected by the disaster. “Prayers & strength to the families of the souls lost in the helicopter crash. So tragic & heartbreaking,” he wrote.

Also in a post shared on social media, Kofi Kinaata described it as “a tragic day for Ghana,” noting that the nation had lost “some of our finest.” “We honour their service and mourn with their families. May their souls rest in peace,” he wrote.

The outpouring of grief from public figures reflects the depth of the loss felt across Ghana, as the nation mourns the death of key leaders who dedicated their lives to public service.

Further updates are expected as investigations continue into the cause of the crash and families are officially informed.
