Ghanaian musician and artiste manager, Ricky Nana Agyemang, popularly known as Bullet, has leapt to the defence of dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah, widely recognised as Shatta Wale, following his detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

According to Bullet, Shatta Wale amassed his wealth through legitimate means, dismissing reports linking him to money laundering or other criminal activities.

Speaking to the media during a visit to EOCO’s headquarters in Accra to show support for Shatta Wale, Bullet argued that the artist was being unfairly targeted.

“Every musician should work hard. They should not be happy that he’s been arrested. It is not about Shatta Wale right now; it is about the system trying to tell you that you cannot make money as an artist.

“He’s made genuine money from music. Ghanaian musicians are wealthy now, and some people are simply pained by this. It is only Shatta Wale who has openly flaunted his wealth, but the system does not seem to understand.”

Meanwhile, several fans of Shatta Wale gathered outside EOCO’s headquarters, staging a demonstration to demand his release.

Videos circulating on social media showed supporters holding placards and chanting in solidarity with the SM boss, insisting on his immediate freedom.

In a Facebook post, Sista Afia wrote: “EOCO PLEASE RELEASE OUR DANCEHALL KING FOR US WE BEG YOU WAAAAA🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 #freeshattawale”

Her message comes at a time when scores of fans have been storming EOCO’s offices in Accra, demanding the release of the award-winning artist.

Ghanaian broadcaster and reggae musician Blakk Rasta has reacted to Shatta Wale’s issues with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

On August 21, it was confirmed that EOCO had detained the artist in connection with money laundering, possession of proceeds of crime, tax fraud, and tax evasion investigations.

Before the arrest, EOCO confiscated Shatta Wale’s 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which has been linked to an FBI case in which Shatta Wale and a former officer of the National Signals Bureau are persons of interest.

During a recent episode of Blakk Rasta’s show, the journalist noted that Shatta Wale was not the only person being monitored by EOCO.

According to the reggae musician, scores of his colleagues in Ghana had illegal revenue sources that EOCO’s boss, Raymond Archer, is bent on solving. “Raymond Archer is working on some huge projects that I am privy to. If he continues in that direction, things will happen,” Blakk Rasta said.

“This is not the end of artists involved in criminal activities, including car theft, buying stolen cars and objects. More artists from Ghana are going to come up. Shatta Wale is not the only artist.”

The reggae musician also bemoaned the trend of so-called musicians who get into the trend as a means of laundering money.

“They are not supposed to be called artists. They are criminals. Some are into the music but have no talent. It’s just for them to do money laundering. They call it washing. We have a few names.

“My excitement is that at the end of the day, Ghana is going to be the winner, and some of us can also feel that we are employed. If you look at what fellow artistes are flaunting, sometimes you look at yourself and think something is wrong.”
