Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has reiterated the government’s firm commitment to improving investment in Ghana’s education sector, with particular focus on infrastructure development and the continuous enhancement of teacher training.
According to him, education remains the backbone of national development, and any meaningful transformation of the country’s future must be anchored on a well-resourced and forward-looking education system.
Speaking at a meeting with Public Relations Officers (PROs) of the agencies under the Ministry of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu underscored the importance of effective communication in shaping public understanding of government policies and achievements in the education sector.
He urged the PROs to be more proactive in their work, ensuring that the public is well-informed about the progress being made under the Ministry.
“Education is the backbone of our national development, and government is fully committed to investing in its growth. We want to see more classrooms built, more resources allocated, and our teachers adequately trained to meet the demands of the 21st century.
“But equally important is how these achievements are communicated to the people we serve.”

The Minister stressed that the role of PROs is not limited to information dissemination but also includes fostering trust between the public and the Ministry. He encouraged the officers to highlight success stories in a credible manner, ensuring that citizens appreciate the government’s interventions in the sector.

“I urge you, as the frontline communicators of the Ministry and its agencies, to maintain the highest professional standards in the discharge of your duties. You must be circumspect in your reportage, avoid misrepresentation, and ensure accuracy in communicating the Ministry’s ideals and successes.”

Addressing Key Challenges
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu noted that the Ministry is working steadily to address key challenges in the sector, including inadequate infrastructure, teacher deployment, and learning outcomes. He said expanding access to quality education, particularly in rural and underserved areas, remains one of government’s top priorities.
The Minister further explained that teacher training and continuous professional development are central to improving learning outcomes.
He emphasized that teachers must be equipped not only with subject knowledge but also with modern pedagogical skills that respond to current global trends. “An empowered teacher is the foundation for an empowered learner,” he remarked.

He also appealed to the PROs to project the Ministry’s efforts to enhance equity and inclusivity in education, particularly in initiatives targeting vulnerable groups such as girls, children with disabilities, and those in hard-to-reach communities.
According to him, effective communication about these interventions helps build public confidence and fosters community participation in the education process.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu assured that government remains determined to pursue policies that not only expand access but also improve the quality of education at all levels.
He mentioned that reforms in curriculum development, digital literacy, and technical and vocational education are part of ongoing efforts to equip Ghanaian learners with the skills required to compete in a rapidly changing global economy.
He concluded his remarks by commending the PROs for their role in bridging the gap between government and citizens and urged them to see themselves as strategic partners in advancing Ghana’s education agenda.

“Your work is not just about communication. It is about building trust, inspiring confidence, and ensuring that the people understand and support the policies that are shaping the future of our children”.
