Akwatia Deserves Development Beyond Partisan Lines

The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has stressed that the people of Akwatia must not be denied development opportunities because of their political choices.

Speaking during the ongoing by-election in the constituency, he insisted that development is a right of every citizen and not a partisan privilege. Mr. Mustapha said the NPP believes in inclusive governance and has consistently demonstrated this through its policies and investments.

He argued that no Ghanaian deserves to be left behind because of how they vote, and political leaders must respect the constitutional guarantee of fairness in development. “The preamble of the Ghanaian constitution says development is a shared responsibility, and the people of Akwatia deserve their fair share,” he said.

The youth organizer reflected on the experiences of the late Hon. Ernest Kumi, the NPP parliamentary candidate whose passing triggered the current by-election. According to him, the young politician endured harassment and humiliation from state institutions that left an emotional scar.

“At one point, Ernest Kumi had to be put at the back of a car and smuggled out of parliament, smuggled out of his own constituency like a criminal, because he was being chased by BNI and National Security. That is how they treated the young man. And today, he has lost his life. You cannot tell me this is not an emotional matter”

He added that such treatment went beyond politics and was fundamentally unjust. He argued that if members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) had faced similar ordeals, they would not have remained silent. To him, “dignity, fairness, and respect for political opponents,” should form the foundation of Ghana’s democracy.

The NPP’s Assurance

Mr. Mustapha assured the people of Akwatia that an NPP victory in the by-election would ensure the constituency benefits from meaningful progress. He said the party’s candidate was prepared to deliver tangible progress and continue the vision of the late Hon. Ernest Kumi.

“The people of Akwatia deserve their share, and by the grace of God, they will vote for Kwame Solomon Kwame Asomadu. He will represent them in parliament as NPP, and development will surely come to Akwatia”

He emphasized that the NPP’s record showed commitment to development even in regions where the party does not traditionally enjoy electoral support. He cited projects in the Volta Region as proof of the party’s philosophy of inclusive governance.

The by-election has attracted nationwide attention, with both the NPP and NDC mounting vigorous campaigns and monitoring the ongoing election in the constituency, as they each try to clinch the vacant parliamentary seat.

“NPP is assured of victory today, we know the work we have done,” Mr. Mustapha said, declaring that the NPP was confident of winning the election and returning the seat to the opposition party.

For him, the vote was not just about political control but about ensuring that Akwatia secures its rightful place in Ghana’s development agenda. He said the NPP would not allow partisan calculations to dictate whether or not the constituency gets its fair share of national progress.

As campaigns reached their peak, the NPP youth leader urged residents of the constituency to stand firm and vote for development, promising that the party would remain committed to their welfare regardless of their political past.
