Ghanaian gospel singer Empress Gifty touched down at Kotoka International Airport to a rousing welcome after being crowned Artiste of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Music Awards-USA.

Beaming with joy, the award-winning singer addressed her supporters and the media gathered at the airport, reflecting on her two-decade journey in gospel music.

“So far so good, God has been faithful to myself, my ministry, and the whole Empress Gifty team,” she said, describing her win as the culmination of 21 years of commitment to her calling. “It has been a long journey, professionally 21 years as a gospel minister…and this is the doing of the Lord.”

Empress Gifty also linked her victory to a prophetic declaration she made last year, one she says she has carried in prayer ever since.

“I think 2024, I said watch me, and it was a prophetic word that God gave to Kuami Eugene, and since that day, I keep praying on that word ‘watch me’…that may the nation watch me.”

Produced by the talented Kuami Eugene, “Watch Me” has already resonated widely, reaching No. 2 on Boomplay’s Daily 100 Christian & Gospel chart and amassing over 760,000 YouTube views since its September release.

This success speaks volumes about the gospel musician’s influence in the gospel music scene and her ability to craft songs that inspire faith and perseverance.

She also explained that just as God promised Abraham he would be the father of many nations, she too believed her moment would come. “I prophesied that word unto my life that a day will come, a month will come, a year will come, and Empress, the whole world will watch me,” she said with emotion.

Calling the Ghana Music Awards-USA an “International Award” of great weight, she described it as a recognition that every artist dreams of. “It is a pressure award that everybody will love to work hard and get something like this,” she remarked.

Grateful for the warm welcome at the airport, the gospel singer expressed nothing but excitement. “I am so good and happy to see you,” she told the cheering crowd, her voice filled with gratitude.

Hopeson Adorye, a well-known Ghanaian politician and the husband of gospel singer Empress Gifty, broke his silence following the wave of criticisms directed at his wife after her latest career milestone.

Empress Gifty was crowned Artiste of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Music Awards-USA, an event that brought together several Ghanaian entertainers in the United States.

Her victory, however, sparked controversy, with some questioning the credibility of the award scheme and raising doubts about how she emerged as the overall winner.

Upon their return to Ghana, Hopeson Adorye was asked to share his thoughts on the backlash.

His response was brief but firm, emphasizing that the result remains unchanged despite public debate. “Empress has won it, case closed. Whether you like it or not, she has won it. Whatever you will say about it, she has won it,” he declared.

For him, the criticisms cannot diminish the achievement of his wife, whom he described as deserving of the recognition. He also stressed that once the award has been presented, no amount of negative commentary can undo the honour.

Empress Gifty, on her part, expressed appreciation to her husband for standing by her, acknowledging his unwavering support throughout her music career and during the storm of criticism that followed her award.
